Boardman ensembles play Winter Orchestra Festival
Three ensembles and several soloists will perform at Boardman High School’s Winter Orchestra Festival.
Boardman’s Classical Orchestra will open the concert, followed by the Chamber Orchestra playing Corelli’s Concerto Grosso Op. 6 No. 6, featuring soloists Amie Nguyen, Katie DePinto and Hannah Austin. Senior solo competition winners Lydia Kenney, viola, and Hannah Austin, cello, will be spotlighted on Hoffmeister’s Viola Concerto in D Major (3rd movement) and Bruch’s Kol Nidrei, accompanied by the Chamber Orchestra.
The 90-member Symphony Orchestra will conclude the evening with Franz von Suppe’s Overture to Poet and Peasant, holiday favorites such as “The Christmas Song” (featuring Lucas Mitchell) and “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” (featuring Kate Congo), the classic “Sleigh Ride” and two high-energy Trans-Siberian Orchestra arrangements. The concert starts at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Boardman Performing Arts Center, 7777 Glenwood Ave. Tickets are $3 for adults and $2 for students and free for senior citizens and preschoolers.
