Speaker series program ponders the afterlife

A program on “Paradise Lost: Jewish Views of the Afterlife” will be presented as part of the J. Newman Levy Speaker Series.

Rabbi Frank Muller is Rabbi Emeritus of Congregation Ohev Beth Sholom, having been the spiritual leader of the temple from 1995-2020. He is currently Rabbinic Scholar at Temple Shalom in Naples, Fla., where he teaches classes in their Lifelong Learning program, and collaborates with the Cantor in a variety of musical capacities. Rabbi Muller also serves the Hebrew Congregation of Chautauqua, leading Shabbat services for the past 19 summers.

The program runs the gamut of opinions on what exists after this life, from resurrection of the body to immortality of the soul, from reincarnation to more natural ways to achieve immortality, such as living on in the memory of our descendants and the good deeds we do during our lifetime.

It starts at 5 p.m. Aug. 11 at the Jewish Community Center of Youngstown, 505 Gypsy Lane. The event includes a meal. Admission is free, but registration is required by Wednesday at jccyoungstown.org/newmanlevy.

Starting at $3.23/week.
