Program recalls 1985 tornado
A free program on the 40th Anniversary of the 1985 tornado is scheduled at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library, 444 Mahoning Ave. NW, Warren.
Gregory S. Forbes, a former severe weather expert with The Weather Channel, was involved in the damage survey conducted after the tornado that killed 12 people on May 31, 1985, and will share his first hand experiences of the aftermath.
Jennifer Narramore of Tornado Talk will pay tribute to the lives lost, recognize the heroes and reflect on the resilience of the affected communities.
FACT announces July fundraiser
Tickets are on sale now for the Fine Arts Council of Trumbull County’s Matter of FACT Fundraiser from 6 to 9 p.m. July 19 at Modern Methods Brewing Company, 125 David Grohl Alley, Warren.
The evening will include live music, local food, an art auction and live painting, and it will coincide with the Psych on Park art show at the Art on Park Gallery.
Those attending are encouraged to wear their more psychedelic and colorful attire.

Fundraiser aids single mothers
The Invisible Woman Collective will host a 1920s Harlem Renaissance-themed art gala from 6 to 10 p.m. July 17 at Concept Studio, 217 W. Federal St., Youngstown.
The evening will include live jazz by the Beck Ward Project and vocalist Morgan Thebes, spoken word performances, curated art showcases, dancing, small plates and handcrafted cocktails. Proceeds will help single mothers secure safe, reliable transportation. VIP and general admission tickets are available through Eventbrite.
Shaun Cassidy to rock the Robins
Shaun Cassidy will perform at the Robins Theatre on Dec. 5.
Cassidy had top 10 hits with “That’s Rock ‘n’ Roll,” “Da Doo Ron Ron” and “Hey Deanie” in the 1970s.
As an actor, he starred in the “Hardy Boys Mysteries” and the TV adaptation of “Breaking Away,” and he went on to be a writer and/or producer on such television shows as “American Gothic,” “Blue Bloods” and “New Amsterdam.”
Tickets for the 7:30 p.m. show go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday.

Packard museum hosts author S.K. DeMarinis
The author of the novel “The Feathers of Fortunato” will speak about the history behind her historical fiction at 2 p.m. Friday at the National Packard Museum, 1899 Mahoning Ave. NW, Warren. Author S.K. DeMarinis will talk about the Italian haberdasher who became mobster Lucky Luciano’s gin supplier during Prohibition in the 1920s. The book is inspired by stories DeMarinis heard from his father about his immigrant Italian family.

Historical society plans preservation workshop
The Trumbull County Historical Society will have a preservation workshop at 2 p.m. May 31 at the future home of the Museum of Science Fiction and Fantasy Art, 410 Main Ave. SW, Warren.
Participants will learn how to preserve family photos and documents in a hands-on workshop with TCHS’s collection staff.

LOOP Youngstown mixes it up at Trumbull Art Gallery
LOOP Youngstown will have a mixer from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Trumbull Art Gallery, 158 N. Park Ave., Youngstown.
Currently on display at TAG is “Arcs/Angles/Sound,” featuring the work of Youngstown artist Tony Armeni and his former students, colleagues and friends. The free event will include art, refreshments and the announcement of the winner of the purchase prize from the exhibition.

Press club offers program on records requests
How to make an effective public records request will be the subject of a June 12 program organized by the Youngstown Press Club and sponsored by the Public Library of Youngstown & Mahoning County.
Panelists will share practical tips, case studies and insight into the challenges and opportunities in filing public records requests at the federal, state and local levels. The panel will include Jack Fitzpatrick, who covers Congress for Bloomberg Government; David Skolnick, Vindicator and Tribune Chronicle politics writer; Lori Shells Simmons, Youngstown city law director; Mary Beth Earnheardt, chair of the department of strategic communication and media at Youngstown State University; Mitch McKenney, associate professor of journalism at Kent State University; and the discussion moderator, Adam Earnheardt, professor of communication at YSU.
It starts at noon at the main library, 305 Wick Ave., Youngstown. The cost is $30 for press club members and $35 for non-members, and the deadline is June 5 for registration and payment at youngstownpress club.com.

Trumbull fairgrounds hosts Firewood Expo
The 3rd Annual International Firewood Expo, hosted by Ohio Wood Burner Ltd.,takes place Friday and Saturday at the Trumbull County Fairgrounds, 899 Everett Hull Road, Bazetta.
The event brings together firewood industry leaders, cutting-edge machinery and top vendors from around the world. Attendees will witness live demonstrations of the latest firewood processing technology, including log splitters, firewood processors, chainsaws, wrapping machines, hand tools, and heavy-duty loading equipment.

Bingo nights support pride events in area
Two drag bingo fundraisers to raise money for area pride festivals are planned this month at Club Switch, 221 Belmont Ave., Youngstown.
The events will be hosted by Starrlet O’Hara from Rust Belt Theater Company, and include fun and unusual prizes, trivia, singalongs, giveaways and O’Hara’s vocal gymnastics and quick-witted drag.
Admission is $10. Proceeds for the 8 p.m. Friday event will benefit New Castle (Pa.) Pride. The second event at 8 p.m. May 23 will benefit Pride Youngstown. These events are for ages 18 and older.
Westminster series offers rock ‘n’ roll history lesson
Neil Berg returns to Westminster College to close out the 2024-25 Celebrity Series.
“Neil Berg’s 50 Years of Rock ‘n’ Roll: Part 3” highlights the birth of rock ‘n’ roll in the 1940s to the glory years of the ’50s, ’60s and ’70s and all the way through the MTV era of the ’80s. Composer and lyricist Berg mixes fascinating stories with hits by Elvis Presley, Stevie Wonder, Carole King, Bruce Springseen, Fleetwood Mac and others.

DC Young Fly coming to Powers Auditorium
Comedian and actor DC Young Fly will perform at 7 p.m. June 13 at Powers Auditorium, 260 W. Federal St. Youngstown.
DC Young Fly, who was named one of the 10 Comics to Watch in 2019 by Variety, has appeared in such films as the 2023 remake of “House Party,” “Candy Cane Lane” and “Outlaw Posse.” He also hosts the VH1/BET game show “Celebrity Squares” and is a two-time host of BET’s Hip Hop Awards.
