Cabaret show promises ‘Something Wonderful’

The next Mahoning Valley Cabaret concert will offer a sneak preview of Youngstown Playhouse’s upcoming production of the musical “Oklahoma!”

The theme for the concert is “Something Wonderful, An Evening with Rodgers & Hammerstein,” and all of the performers are part of the cast for “Oklahoma!,” which opens May 9 at the Playhouse and will be directed by MV Cabaret founder Tyler Stouffer.

The vocalists will perform songs from musicals written by composer Richard Rodgers and lyricist Oscar Hammerstein II, whose credits include “Carousel,” “South Pacific,” “The King and I” and “The Sound of Music.”

Singers include Olivia Anderson, Chey Carr, Patty Carr, Tim Carr, Lennon Ciavarella, Brooke Jonas, Chase Miles, Peter Sherman, Kathryn Stanton, Kath Steeb, Alec Toporcer and Emma Wason. They will be joined by other “Oklahoma!” cast members for the finale and will be backed by a live band.

The cabaret show starts at 6 p.m. Sunday at the Playhouse, 600 Playhouse Lane. Admission is pay what you can, and half of the door donations and all of the basket raffle proceeds will be donated to the Playhouse to support the upcoming production of “Oklahoma!” and its 100th Anniversary Gala.
