Pabstolutely on Saturday, TSO coming in November

Assorted ramblings from the world of entertainment:

• Royal Oaks is back open to the public this week with shooting finished on the film “The Awoken,” and the movie wrapped just in time for the Youngstown bar’s most popular annual event — Pabstolutely.

This is the 17th year for the day-long music fest, which raises money for The Purple Cat and Golden String, which provide day-program alternatives for adults with disabilities.

The Feral Cats, a band made up of Purple Cat clients, will get the music started at 12:30 p.m. Saturday. The schedule for the rest of the day is: Mother Elizabeth Thorne at 1:20 p.m., The Hawtsies at 2:20 p.m., Neighbor Dan at 3:15 p.m., Punk Willie at 4:10 p.m., Rabbit Dog at 5 p.m., Fear of Dancing at 6;15 p.m., Friendship Commanders at 7:30 p.m., DAGGRS at 8:40 p.m., Black Signal at 9:30 p.m. and ALBUM closing out the night at 10:20 p.m.

Black Signal’s appearance coincided with the release of its new album, “The Destruction,” on vinyl and cassette on Friday.

There will be a vendors market and food available from Babcia’s Lunchbox as well as The Royal Oaks’ BBQ.

Admission is $10.

• Mahoning Valley Trans-Siberian Orchestra fans won’t have to venture to Cleveland or Pittsburgh for their annual serving of prog rock and seasonal favorites.

TSO announced its 2024 tour on Tuesday, and it includes two shows at Youngstown’s Covelli Centre at 3 and 8 p.m. Nov. 22, the Friday before Thanksgiving.

According to the press release, the group is promising an all-new show that celebrates a trio of 20s — the 20th anniversary of its “The Lost Christmas Eve” album (the final chapter of TSO’s Christmas trilogy), attracting its 20 millionth concertgoer and donating $20 million to charity.

Members of the band’s fan club will have the first shot at tickets. The presale for the November dates starts at 10 a.m. today with the presale for the December dates starting at 10 a.m. Friday. Those December shows include Pittsburgh (PPG Paints Arena at 2:30 and 7:30 p.m.) and Cleveland (Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse at 3 and 7:30 p.m. Dec. 27).

Tickets go on sale to the general public at 10 a.m. Sept. 13 through Ticketmaster for the Youngstown show, and for the first week there will be tickets starting at $49.99 plus fees.

As in the past, there will be two TSO units on the road simultaneously from Nov. 13 until Dec. 30 to hit as many cities as possible during the holiday season.

• Heritage Auctions is in Howland this week crating up the Boy Scouts of America art collection at Medici Museum of Art for the first of several auctions to liquidate the collection.

That’s not the only high-profile collection entrusted to the auction house.

This week it listed more than 2,000 costumes, weapons, props and set decorations from the bloody HBO fantasy series “Game of Thrones” that will be sold in three auctions in October.

The collection includes such memorable artifacts as the gold hand of Jaime Lannister (played by Nikolaj Coster-Waldau); swords wielded by Jon Snow (Kit Harrington), Brienne of Tarth (Gwenoline Christie) and Arya Stark (Maisie Williams); the Hand of the Queen pin worn by Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage); and more than a dozen costumes of Daenerys Targaryen (Emelia Clarke) as well as her dragon eggs.

Considering the popularity of the series — it was one of the most watched shows on television at its peak — some of these items are sure to fetch a small fortune, if not as much as the most valuable Rockwells that were displayed at Medici.

If only they could find a better finale script for “Game of Thrones” among all these treasures …
