Youngstown Playhouse schedules auditions for ‘Something Rotten’

Auditions will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday and Monday at Youngstown Playhouse, 600 Playhouse Lane, for its production of the musical “Something Rotten.”

The Karey Kirkpatrick / Wayne Kirkpatrick / John O’Farrell musical comedy imagines the invention of musical theater in the 1590s by aspiring playwrights Nick and Nigel Bottom, who are desperate to write a hit at a time when William Shakespeare dominated the scene.

It was nominated for 10 Tony Awards and ran for nearly two years on Broadway from 2015 to 2017.

Needed are singers, dancers and actors ages 16 and older. Those auditioning should come prepared to sing 16 bars of a song of their choice. An accompanist and tech will be provided. They also should come dressed and prepared for some light choreography.

The Playhouse production will be directed by Emmas Wason and is scheduled to open Sept. 20 for a two-weekend run at the Playhouse.
