Opera Western Reserve sets auditions for ‘La Traviata’

Guiseppe Verdi’s “La Traviata” will be this year’s production by Opera Western Reserve, and auditions are planned in April for principal roles and chorus members as well as its Emerging Artists program.

“La Traviata” will be staged at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 22 at Powers Auditorium in Youngstown.

Singers have until March 25 to apply to audition for the roles of Violetta, Alfredo, Germont and all supporting roles. Singers also can audition to be considered for future main stage productions.

A soprano, tenor and baritone also will be hired for OWR’s Emerging Artists program. The selected singers will perform a mini-mainstage presentation of “La Traviata” for young audiences for its 2024-25 season.

Applications should be submitted to operawesternreserve.org/audition, where complete details can be found.

On-stage auditions by invitation will take place from 4:30 to 9:30 p.m. April 17 at DeYor Performing Arts Center, 260 W. Federal St., Youngstown. Open chorus auditions are scheduled from 6 to 9 p.m. April 17 at DeYor.

Those auditioning should be prepared to perform one Italian art song from the “24 Italian Songs and Arias” songbook.

Chorus rehearsals will start in late September. OWR encourages performers of all races, ethnicities, gender identities and expressions, ages, abilities and body types to audition.

All principal and supporting role contracts are paid. Select chorus ensemble leadership positions are paid.
