YOUNGSTOWN — Members of the Mahoning Valley Watercolor Society will display their work in “A Brush with Nature,” an exhibition opening Friday at Mill Creek Park’s Weller Gallery.

“We told the members we wanted (submissions) to be nature-based,” said Noreen Yazvac, co-president of the organization along with Elizabeth Ford. “It kind of goes along with the theme of Mill Creek Park and Fellows Riverside Gardens. You’ll see an array of artworks — landscapes, floral, anything that has to do with nature.”

Members were invited to submit nature-themed works for the nonjuried show.

“We want all members to participate,” Yazvac said. “It’s a learning experience for them. It will be everyone from beginners to professional artists. It’s a new experience for some of them, learning how to be a part of a show, and how to price your work.”

The show features 32 works by 29 artists: Elizabeth Ford, Jody Nudell, Mike Cantelmo, Carole Damschroeder, Shari Fry, Susan Dryburgh, Cynthia Sahyoun, Suzanne Pool Anzelloti, Lynne Rosati, Millie Hawkins, Bob Schulick, John Burkard, Edward Jones, Karen Nelson, John Schlabaugh, Sharon Clifford, Mary Merritt, Beth Basista, Linda Mohn, Susan Blake, Penny Senyak, Janice Coombs, Brenda Myers Cohen, Hazel Bobosky, Lotte Herwig-Erhardt, Janice Jarvis, Elayne M.S. Bozik, Allison Gregg and Yazvac.

Yazvac called Mill Creek Park a great resource for members of the society and all local artists.

“Oh my gosh, it’s golden, such a gem in our area,” she said. “We spend so much time in the park. It really invigorates the artists, who get a lot of inspiration visiting park places. Nature is really invigorating.”

“Mahoning Valley Watercolor Society: A Brush with Nature” will be on display through March 31 in Weller Gallery at Fellows Riverside Gardens, 123 McKinley Ave., Youngstown. Most of the work is available for purchase.
