Lit Youngstown series ends year with NE Ohio authors

Christopher Barzak and Carrie George will be the featured authors for Lit Youngstown’s final First Wednesday Reader Series of 2023.

Barzak, who lives in Youngstown, is the author of four novels and two short story collections. His books have received the Stonewall Honor Award from the American Library Association, the Shirley Jackson Award, the Crawford Award, the Whippoorwill Award, and have been placed on the Human Rights Campaign list of books for LGBTQ-welcoming school libraries.

His latest book is “Monstrous Alterations,” which reimagines fairy tales and classic monster stories.

George is a poet and teacher living in Akron. She received her master’s degree from Kent State University and the Northeast Ohio MFA program. She is the manager at Elizabeth’s Bookshop & Writing Centre. Her work has appeared in Hayden’s Ferry Review, Cosmonauts Avenue and The Indianapolis Review.

The reading starts at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Trophy Room at Westside Bowl, 2617 Mahoning Ave., Youngstown, and will be followed by an open mic co-hosted by Craig Duster.
