Butler names winners of Area Artists Annual show

The award winners for the 84th Area Artists Annual exhibition at the Butler Institute of American Art in Youngstown were announced during a reception Sunday.

Josh Ryhal of Hubbard received best in show honors for his ballpoint pen work “The Return.” Thomas Sewickley of Youngstown received first place recognitions for his pastel painting “Fog on Cohasset,” followed by C. Robert Buchanan of Poland for his watercolor “Western Reserve” and Jacquelyn Bader of Youngstown for her acrylic painting “Ruth.”

Marie Dippolito of Warren received the Fred Staloff Award, Richard M. Fisher of Leetonia was selected for the Robert Yalch Award and John Burkard of Poland was chosen for the Rick Shale Award.

Dippolito and Burkard also were among the ten artists who received honorable mention recognition. The others were: Gary Balog, Girard; Bob Barko Jr., Youngstown; Anthony Campanizzi, Youngstown; Carol Gallo, Girard; Jeanie Gordon, Warren; Bryce Herrington, Sharon, Pa.; Brenda Meyers Cohen, Girard; and Jody Nudell, Girard.

This year’s exhibition features 103 works by 81 artists. It is open to all media created by artists in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties in Ohio and Lawrence and Mercer counties in Pennsylvania.
