Claudia Schmidt back at Dulci-More
Folk musician Claudia Schmidt will perform a concert Friday for Dulci-More: Folk & Traditional Musicians.
The Michigan native is in her fifth decade exploring the nuances of acoustic music with her voice, 12-string guitar and mountain dulcimer. She's appeared on "A Prairie Home Companion" and "Mountain Stage." She previously played Dulci-More's concert series in 2017 and appeared at Dulci-More Festival 24 the following year.
The concert starts at 7 p.m. at the Salem Historical Society's Dale Shaffer Research Library, 239 S. Lundy Ave., Salem. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for all children in the same family. For more information, call call 234-564-3852 or email bill@dulcimore.org.
Pipino series opens Sunday
The work of African American women composers will be highlighted in "My Sister's Keeper," the opening performance in the 2023-24 Pipino Performing Arts Series.
In 2018, a team of performing scholars conceived and developed the My Sister's Keeper project to explore African American women composers through the lens of African American women musicians. Minnita Daniel Cox, Alexis Davis-Hazell, Marcia Porter and Rosalyn Wright Floyd have presented for national audiences via the National Association of Teachers of Singing and the National Opera Association.
The concert is 3 p.m. Sunday at St. Patrick's Church, 420 Oak Hill Ave., Youngstown. Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for senior citizens, YSU alumni and staff, $5 for children and free for YSU students. They are available online at www.tix.com/ticket-sales/ysu/4712.
Blood, Sweat & Tears show set
The band Blood, Sweat & Tears will perform at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 12 at Westminster College's Orr Auditorium in New Wilmington, Pa., as part of the college's 2023-24 Celebrity Series.
More than 200 musicians have performed in BST over its 56-year history. The band is best known for such hits as "And When I Die," "You've Made Me So Very Happy," and "Spinning Wheel" and its self-titled second album, which won the Grammy Award for Album of the Year in 1970.
