Westminster announces 2023-24 Celebrity Series

A holiday show by Jackie Evancho and the New York Tenors will be part of the 2023-24 Westminster College Celebrity Series.

The series opens Sept. 23 with “Neil Berg’s 50 Years of Rock ‘N’ Roll Part 2.” Featuring an all-star band and Broadway veterans, the show celebrates the history of rock ‘n’ roll from 1929-1981 with songs by Elvis Presley, The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Janis Joplin, Carole King, Muddy Waters, Patsy Cline, James Brown, The Supremes and many others.

Blood, Sweat & Tears will perform Oct. 12. The group’s 1969 self-titled debut won the Grammy for album of the year (beating The Beatles’ “Abbey Road”) and featured the hits “Spinning Wheel,” “You’ve Made Me So Very Happy” and “And When I Die.”

Evancho, who gained worldwide recognition at age 10 on NBC’s “America’s Got Talent,” brings “An Evening of Holiday Cheer” on Dec. 2, performing such seasonal favorites as “O Holy Night,” “I’ll Be Home For Christmas” and “White Christmas.”

Helen Welch, a frequent guest vocalist with the W.D. Packard Concert Band and Big Band Sound of Packard, brings her show “Superstar: The Songs. The Story. The Carpenters” on March 9, 2024. She’ll perform such hits as “Close To You,” “We’ve Only Just Begun,” and “Superstar” and tell backstage stories about the brother-and-sister duo of Karen and Richard Carpenter.

The season concludes April 6, 2024, with the New York Tenors, featuring the vocal artistry of Andy Cooney, Daniel Rodriguez and Christopher Macchio.

All performances start at 7:30 p.m. at Westminster College’s Orr Auditorium.

Tickets are on sale now for all shows. For more information or to order tickets, contact the Celebrity Series box office by calling 724-946-7354 or going to www.westminster.edu/celebrity.
