The North American tour of “Back to the Future: The Musical” will open in Cleveland, one of six shows coming to Playhouse Square as part of the 2023-24 KeyBank Broadway Series.

“Back to the Future,” based on the 1985 movie of the same name, is scheduled to open on Broadway in June. It won an Olivier Award (London’s equivalent to a Tony Award) for best new musical in 2022.

Several other tours of award-winning shows will be part of the upcoming season, which was announced Tuesday.

With more than 44,000 season ticket holders, Playhouse Square has a larger season-ticket base than any other Broadway venue in North America, and each show will play for at least three weeks.

According to Playhouse Square President and CEO Craig Hassall, “The passion for theater and knowledge of the industry rivals that of audiences anywhere in the world. We want to continue to bring our guests the best shows and more opportunities to witness amazing performances on stage.”

Cleveland also will be one of the first stops for the pre-Broadway tour of a revival of “The Wiz.” That production will open the 2023-24 season, running Oct. 3 to 22.

Other shows on the schedule are:

Oct. 31 to Nov. 19 — “The Girl from the North Country,” a musical built around the songs of Bob Dylan that was nominated for seven Tony Awards in 2022 and won for best orchestrations.

Jan. 9 to 28, 2024 — “Mrs. Doubtfire,” a musical based on the 1993 film starring Robin Williams.

Feb. 20 to March 10, 2024 — “Funny Girl,” a tour based on the revival currently playing on Broadway and starring Lea Michele.

April 30 to May 19, 2024 — “Company,” the Stephen Sondheim classic that won five 2022 Tony Awards, including best revival of a musical.

June 11 to July 7, 2024 — “Back to the Future: The Musical”

July 16 to Aug. 11, 2024 — “MJ the Musical,” based on the life of Michael Jackson. It received 10 2022 Tony nominations and won four, including best choreography, best lighting design and best sound design.
