Westminster presents lineup for upcoming Celebrity Series

A pair of Broadway veterans and Scott Bradlee’s Postmodern Jukebox will perform at Westminster College for its 2022-23 Celebrity Series.

Mandy Gonzalez will open the season on Oct. 8. She’s currently playing Angelica Schuyler on Broadway in Lin-Manuel Miranda’s “Hamilton,” and she was part of the original Broadway cast for Miranda’s “In the Heights.” Her other Broadway credits include 10 months playing Elphaba in “Wicked” as well as the musicals “Aida,” “Dance of the Vampires” and “Lennon.”

Michael Cavanaugh will perform the music of Billy Joel and Elton John on Nov. 5. Cavanaugh was chosen by Joel to star in the Broadway musical “Movin’ Out,” for which he received a Tony Award nomination for best featured actor in a musical. His performance will include such Joel and John favorites as “Piano Man,” “Rocket Man,” “Bennie and the Jets,” “Movin’ Out,” “I’m Still Standing” and “My Life.”

The holiday show Celtic Angels Christmas featuring the Celtic Knight Dances and The Trinity Band Ensemble of Dublin is scheduled for Dec. 16. The concert will feature carols sung in English and Gaelic and Irish dancing by Patrick Mahoney and Blane Donovan, former lead dancers of Riverdance.

DrumLine Live on Feb. 11, 2023, is a an international tour based on the marching band tradition at historically black colleges and universities. The synchronized musical showcase includes the music of James Brown, Michael Jackson and Prince as well as selections from the musical “Dreamgirls.”

Postmodern Jukebox brings its Life in the Past Lane tour to Westminster on April 1, 2023. The rotating roster of singers and musicians performs contemporary songs with retro arrangements and has performed more than 1,000 shows on six continents. Many of its songs have tens of millions of views on YouTube.

The series concludes with a Celebrity Series for Kids performance of “The Gruffalo” by Tall Stories on May 15. The magical, musical adaptation of the picture book by Julian Donaldson and Axel Scheffler has played London’s West End, Broadway’s New Victory Theater and the Sydney (Australia) Opera House.

All performances start at 7:30 p.m. at Orr Auditorium except for “The Gruffalo,” which starts at 6:30 p.m.
