Black Violin announced for Powers

The duo Black Violin will play Powers Auditorium on Nov. 17.

Black Violin is led by classically trained string players Wil B. (viola) and Kev Marcus (violin). For 17 years, Black Violin has been merging string arrangements with modern beats and vocals and building bridges in communities along the way. The duo met in orchestra class at Dillard High School in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., becoming classically trained on the violin and viola through their high school and college careers.

The duo later went on to win Showtime at the Apollo in 2005 and eventually sold out headline performances at venues across the country. In 2019 the duo launched the Black Violin Foundation Inc., a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering youth by providing access to quality music programs in their community.

The Youngstown concert will feature music from its Grammy-nominated “Take the Stairs” album as well as holiday favorites from “Give Thanks.” Joining the duo on stage are DJ SPS and drummer Nat Stokes.

Tickets for the 7:30 p.m. show range from $35 to $65 and go on sale 10 a.m. Friday at the DeYor box office, online at deyorpac.org and by calling 330-744-0264.
