YACCB announces 2022 summer concert program

YOUNGSTOWN — The Youngstown Area Community Concert Band will celebrate Ohio music and composers with its 2022 summer concert program.

The program will include marches by Henry Fillmore and Karl L. King and arrangements by Clare Grundman. James Swearingen, chair of music education at Capital University and an arranger for The Ohio State University Marching Band, will be represented with “Novena,” “All Glory Told,” “Deep River” and “Flight Of Valor.” “Rise of the Firebird” and “Main Street Celebration” were written by Steven Reineke, an Ohio native who earned his degrees at Miami University in Oxford.

The program also will include a medley of some of the best-known works by Cleveland-born composer Henry Mancini, including “Pink Panther,” “Moon River,” “Peter Gunn” and “Baby Elephant Walk.”

As a dedication to the people of Ukraine, each concert this summer will begin with the playing of its national anthem, followed by “The Star Spangled Banner.”

This is the 39th year for the band, directed by Joseph Pellegrini, who is a graduate of the Navy School of Music and Youngstown State University’s Dana School Of Music.

May 15 — St. Luke’s Church Spring Thing, Boardman, at 1 p.m.

June 29 — Buhl Farm Park, Sharon, Pa., 6:30 p.m.
