Several local retailers will participate Saturday in Free Comic Book Day, which was created to interest children and adults in the hobby of comic book collecting.

Stores will be giving away special editions of comic books from more than a dozen publishers, including Marvel, DC, Image, Valiant and Dark Horse. Titles include such familiar characters and shows as Spider-Man, Avengers, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, “Stranger Things,” “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” “Doctor Who,” Captain Underpants, Archie and Sonic the Hedgehog.

Participating shops in the area include All-American Cards and Comics in Warren and Boardman, Liberty Comics in Austintown, Watchtower Heroes in Columbiana and Bennie’s in Sharon, Pa. For more information, go to www.freecomicbookday.com.
