YSO hosts evening of the romantics

youngstown — Violinist Stephen Tavani will join the Youngstown Symphony Orchestra for “An Evening of the Romantics” on Sunday at Powers Auditorium.

Tavani joined the Cleveland Orchestra as its assistant concertmaster in the fall of 2018. He has performed as a soloist with conductors Carlos Miguel Prieto and Andrew Litton and appeared around the world in recitals, chamber music and orchestra concerts.

Tavani has served as guest concertmaster with the Houston Symphony, Indianapolis Symphony, Jacksonville Symphony and Louisiana Philharmonic. Before joining the Cleveland Orchestra, he was concertmaster of the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia for one season.

He is a member of Third Culture Ensemble, which serves diverse communities throughout Northeast Ohio through music. He also is involved with the MasterWorks Festival, which seeks to glorify God through the arts.

Sunday’s concert will include works by Bela Bartok, Johannes Brahms and Ludwig van Beethoven.

Miriam Burns, artistic director and conductor of the Paragon Philharmonia and director of orchestras at The Ohio State University, will make her second appearance with the YSO this season as its principal guest conductor.

The concert starts at 4 p.m. Sunday at Powers Auditorium, 260 W. Federal St., Youngstown. Tickets range from $35 to $55 and are available online at deyorpac.org and by calling 330-259-9651.
