Prince’s band booked at Robins

WARREN — New Power Generation, Prince’s backing band from 1990 to 2013, will perform Oct. 9 at the Robins Theatre.

Morris Hayes, NPG keyboardist and Prince’s long-time musical director, reassembled the band to serve as the house band for the official Prince tribute concert in Minneapolis in October 2016 following the musician’s death.

According to the band’s website, the configuration of the band occasionally changes but always with NPG alumni making up the majority of, if not the entire band — Hayes; Tony Mosley, guitar and vocals; Sonny Thompson, bass; Damon Dickson, percussion, background vocals and dancer; and Levi Seacer Jr., guitar.

New Power Generation is the band on such Prince hits as “Diamond and Pearls,” “Gett Off” and “Cream,” and its setlist spans Prince’s four-decade career.

Tickets for the 8 p.m. show are $45 and $35 and go on sale 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Robins box office and at www.robins theatre.com.
