Hannon scheduled for McGuffey lecture

United Way President and former broadcaster Bob Hannon will be the next speaker in the William Holmes McGuffey Historical Society’s Memories of a Lifetime lecture series.

Hannon has been with the United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley since 2008. As president, he is responsible for leading a team that raises more than $3 million annually. The Youngstown City Schools’ Success After Six is one of many United Way-managed programs centered upon educating and enriching the lives of are children

Before joining the United Way, Hannon worked as sports director for television station WYTV from 1989 to 2008. He anchored the 6 and 11 p.m. sportscasts and continues to serve as the play-by-play voice for Youngstown State University football.

Born and raised in New Castle, Pa., Hannon graduated from Slippery Rock University with a bachelor’s degree in communications and lives in Poland.

The program starts 10 a.m. June 19 in the Kravitz’s Deli meeting room, 3135 Belmont Ave., Liberty. Admission is $5 for member and $6 for nonmembers. Reservations are recommended and can be made by calling 330-726-8277.
