Rock Hall screens documentary on ‘SOUL!’ program

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland will host an online screening at 7 p.m. today of the documentary “Mr. SOUL!,” followed by a post-screening discussion.

The movie tells the story of “SOUL!,” a variety show that ran on public television in the late 1960s and early ’70s. It was an unfiltered, uncompromising celebration of black culture, music, literature, poetry and politics and featured dazzling array of musical guests, including Patti LaBelle, Stevie Wonder, Al Green and Earth, Wind & Fire.

The movie will start at 7 p.m. online, followed by a discussion featuring LaBelle, Verdine White of EWF, director Melissa Haizlip and Rock Hall Chief Curator Nwaka Onwusa. Actor Blair Underwood, executive producer of the film, will introduce the panel and Stephanie Tavares-Rance, co-founder of Run&Shoot Filmworks, will moderate it. Go to www.rockhall.com/events to RSVP for access to the free event.
