Cartoonist talks at Trumbull Town Hall

Cartoonist Tom Toro will be the next speaker in the 2019-20 Trumbull Town Hall lecture series.

Toro has had more than 200 of his cartoons appear in The New Yorker since 2010, and his work also has been published by Playboy, the Paris Review, the New York Times and American Bystander.

“Tiny Hands,” his book of cartoons focusing on the current U.S. president was published in 2017 by Dock Street Press. His first children’s book, “How to Potty Train Your Porcupine,” will be released on May 12 by Little Brown.

In addition to his work as a cartoonist, Toro has written short stories for the New Haven Review, Slush Pile and Litro as well as contributing essays to the New Yorker Cartoon Encyclopedia. Tom’s fiction has been shortlisted for the Disquiet International Literary Prize. He currently is working on a graphic memoir about becoming an artist during turbulent times.

Toro attended film school at New York University and co-created films that play at the Sundance, Tribeca and Cannes film festivals. He graduated from Yale University, where he received the Betts Prize for his literary work and served as cartoon editor for the Yale Herald.

The program starts at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Packard Music Hall, 1703 Mahoning Ave. NW, Warren. Doors open at 9:30 a.m., and refreshments will be available for purchase in the lobby. Single tickets are $35 and are available at the Packard box office and by calling 330-240-1706.
