‘Nude on Park’ gets provocative

“Nude on Park” is getting more provocative in its fourth year.

James Shuttic, director of the Fine Arts Council of Trumbull County, said the non-juried event has evolved in the years since its 2017 debut at the Art on Park building in downtown Warren.

“One of the artists who was helping to hang the show asked if I thought it had become an erotic art show,” Shuttic said. “Since we first did it, the tone definitely has gotten a little more, I don’t want to say edgy, but more provocative than in the past.

“The first year was a lot more traditional, kind of studies of the human figure. Now it’s not just traditional form but they’re tying it in with sexuality and relationships … The artists are using sexuality to talk about their emotional states.”

This year’s show features about 50 works by 19 artists from Trumbull, Mahoning and Summit counties and western Pennsylvania.

“It a nice mix of men and women and from retired seniors to one artist who is still in high school,” Shuttic said.

Participating artists include Kate Huff, Robert Kidd, Pete Vouvounas, Trisha Mullen, Dave Karr, Lucas Cummins, Terry Polonsky, Torri Session, Bethany Gregory, Dovey Wuvey, Shannon Fee, Daniel Timko, Carmen Denno, Samuel Perry, Adam Gregory, Josh Ford, Kelly Mimna, Shawn David Hyde and Shuttic.

The show will be on display from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday. Rhythm People will DJ during the opening event, and the other studios in Art on Park will be open.

“Nude on Park” is sponsored by Fowler, Goodman & O’Brien, LPA, Inc.
