Ronald and Barbara Emch of Hubbard were honored at a 50th wedding anniversary family celebration Sept. 2, 2023, at The Chophouse Restaurant in Howland.
Ronald and the former Barbara Eyler met at the Washington Navy Yard in Washington, D.C., while they were both serving the Navy. Ronald was a radioman 3rd Class and Barbara was an aerographer's mate 3rd Class. They were married six months later, Aug. 31, 1973, in Arlington, Va., with friends as witnesses. A family celebration followed in Girard at Ronald's family home.
Ronald worked many jobs in the fabricating industry after training at ITT as a draftsman. He now works at G.W. Becker Inc. as an engineering design checker.
Barbara received a Bachelor of Arts in Applied Science degree from Youngstown State University and worked as a dietary technician at a nursing home for one year and as a part-time office manager for a guardian agency for 34 years, retiring in 2019.
The couple have three sons, Todd (Michelle), Kurt (Kelsey) and Derek (McKenzie). They also have three grandsons and a granddaughter.
Ronald stays active training for half-marathons and sprint triathlons, and Barbara enjoys making dolls and dollhouses, crocheting, reading, hiking and spending time with family.
