BRISTOL WORSHIP: Several Bristol churches will be coming together for a special service at 10 a.m. Sunday at the Bristol Township Center off Route 45 and 88. There will be a program on the history of the different churches and a morning worship service.
FALL EXQUINOX: Unity Spiritual Centre, 1226 Naylor-Lloyd Road, Liberty, will host a fall equinox drumming circle 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the Centre. A bonfire is planned, weather permitting. Otherwise, the event will be inside. The circle will be led by Dan Susany, a local drummer, who has led regional drumming events since 1997. Guests may bring your own drum, or drums will be available. The event is free, but donations will be accepted. For questions, contact the Centre at 330-539-0122.
CHURCH HOSTS PROGRAM: The First Presbyterian Church of Warren on Mahoning Avenue NW will host a program at 11:15 a.m. Sunday on "Dementia Friends" with Christy Boone from Direction Home of Eastern Ohio. She serves as the director of special projects and leads the church's Share Care Circle Group.
35-YEAR ANNIVERSARY: Paynes Corners Christian Church, 277 Warner Road, Brookfield, will celebrate the 35th year of Steve Linamen who has reached a milestone in his career having served as pastor of the church for 35 years. Worship is at 11 a.m. on Sunday. Steve and his wife, Tami, are both involved in the weekly services with Steve as pastor and Tami as pianist. Tami also teaches a Sunday School service for the young children who attend. The independent church was founded in 1858 and has operated since then in the original building on Warner Road.
FIRST FRIDAY SPEAKER: The First Friday Club of Greater Youngstown will host its second luncheon speaker of the 2026-27 season Oct. 1 with Sister Colleen Gibson, SSJ, who will present "Wandering in Wonder: Cultivating Awe in an Age of Uncertainty."
The luncheon will take place at 11:30 a.m., followed by the speaker at noon, at Avion on the Water Banquet Center, 2177 W. Western Reserve Road, Canfield.
Sister Colleen is a sister of St. Joseph of Philadelphia, who serves as the coordinator of pastoral care at St. John-St. Paul Catholic Collaborative in Wellesley, Massachusetts. An award-winning author and speaker, she is a regular contributor to Give Us This Day, Global Sisters Report and the National Catholic Reporter and has been featured on CNN and National Public Radio. Sister Colleen is the co-host of the podcast “Beyond the Habit,” which seeks to move beyond everyday assumptions of what it means to be Catholic and live the Gospel, offering a dynamic view of vowed religious life as well as the everyday spiritual life.

PACKING PARTY: Southington Christian Church, 3285 state Route 534, will host an Operation Christian Child party at 12:15 p.m. Sept. 27. The congregation will pack 120 shoeboxes for girls for Operation Christmas Child, a project of Samaritan's Purse that sends gift-filled shoeboxes to children in need around the world. All are welcome to come and pack a shoebox. A potluck lunch will be at the church before the packing.
GRIEF SHARE: Lord of Life Lutheran Church, 550 N. Broad St., Canfield, will offer a grief share support group 1 to 2:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Sept. 15 to Dec. 8. Help and encouragement will be offered following the death of a loved one.
OBLATE SISTERS EVENT: The Oblate Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Auxiliary in Hubbard will host the annual Bella Sera Dinner Dance 6 to 11 p.m. Sept. 26 at Leo’s Banquet Hall, 7042 E. Market St., Warren. The charity event benefits the Oblate Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Tickets for Bella Sera are $80 per person. RED MASS: Youngstown Bishop David J. Bonnar will preside at the annual Red Mass at 12:10 p.m. Oct. 1 at St. Columba Cathedral in Youngstown. A luncheon and program will follow at St. Columba Hall. The annual event is for all men and women involved in legal and judicial professions in the six counties of the Diocese of Youngstown and is sponsored by the Thomas More Society. The event highlights how essential the vocations of those in the legal profession are for the common good. Over the years, the gathering has allowed participants to engage in ethical and moral reflection through a Catholic Christian lens. YUMADAOP SETS RESET EVENT: Youngstown Urban Minority Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Outreach Program (YUMADAOP) has launched its first faith-based Back in School RESET event 4 to 8 p.m. Sept. 19 at the McGuffey Center on Youngstown's East Side.
Designed specifically for students in grades 6 to 12, this inaugural gathering marks the beginning of a new tradition rooted in spiritual encouragement, community unity and youth empowerment as teens prepare to enter the school year with renewed purpose and support. As the debut RESET event, this faith-grounded initiative brings together youth organizations, local leaders and families for an evening of empowerment, resources and fellowship. Students will experience school‑readiness activities, wellness programming and opportunities to connect with mentors and community advocates -- all within an uplifting environment centered on hope, purpose and spiritual strength. Launching the very first Back In School RESET allows the organization to pour faith, confidence and encouragement into young people right when they need it most -- especially those navigating the critical middle school and high school years.
The event will feature:
• Youth Empowerment Workshops -- Motivation, leadership and academic readiness rooted in purpose and positive values.
• Resource stations -- Access to community services, support programs and school-year tools
• Health & wellness activities -- Movement, mindfulness and mental health check-ins.
• Community celebration -- Music, food, games and neighborhood engagement.
TAIZE PRAYER: Villa Maria Education and Spirituality Center will offer Taizé Prayer at 7 p.m. Sept. 29. The theme is: Ordinary Time. A service of prayer, song and contemplation by candlelight. Taizé is a form a Christian prayer originating from the ecumenical Christian community of Taizé in France. One is invited to rest in God through the singing of psalm verses and other simple chants, alternating with periods of silent reflection. It is a time to come away and rest for a while through experience of the simplicity and depth of the Word of God.
