Plant and Pest Clinic
You can submit your questions by calling the Mahoning County office at 330-533-5538 or emailing us at mahoningclinic@osu.edu. Please attach photos and add any information that would help research your plant and pest questions. The clinic is open April through October, Monday and Thursday 9 a.m. to noon. Walk-ins are welcome.
Speaker Series: Landscape Design for People and Wildlife
WHEN: 6 p.m. Tuesday
WHAT: Fern Gast, display horticulturist at Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens, who will discuss if it is possible to make both the neighbors and the newts happy. Fern will draw on her background in landscape design and maintenance of native plant landscapes to discuss ways you can help your local wildlife without attracting unwelcome attention from your local humans.

Morning with the Masters: Fall Lawn Care Talk
WHEN: 12:15 p.m. Wednesday
WHAT: Fall is the best time of the year to care for your lawn. Learn about seeding, fertilizing, soil testing, weed control and more in the fall to give your lawn a head start for next year.

Master Class: Ohio's Bats
WHEN: 6:30 p.m. Wednesday
WHAT: This program explores Ohio's bats and their importance to our ecosystems. Instructor Todd Cartner will share common and lesser-known facts, current bat research in Ohio, and the roles bats play in agriculture and human health. Learn about Ohio's bat species, their conservation status, the impacts of white-nose syndrome, and how conservation efforts--and you--can help support their recovery.

Med instead of meds series
Eating healthier doesn't have to mean giving up good food. The Ohio State University Extension, Mahoning County, is inviting area residents to explore a simple and satisfying approach to healthy eating through its upcoming Med Instead of Meds in-person class series.
The five-part series will introduce participants to the Mediterranean way of eating and provide practical tips, recipes and "life hacks" that can be incorporated into everyday meals. The program focuses on seven simple steps to help participants "Go Med" and make the Mediterranean way of eating a regular part of their lifestyle.
Classes will be 10 a.m. to noon on Fridays, Sept. 11 through Oct. 9, at OSU Extension Mahoning County office, 490 S. Broad Street, Canfield.
Each session will focus on a different aspect of the Mediterranean way of eating:
• Sept. 11 -- Introducing the Mediterranean Way of Eating
• Sept. 18 -- Swap Your Fats
• Sept. 25 -- Eat More Fruits and Vegetables
• Oct. 2 -- Change Your Protein
• Oct. 9 -- Rethink Your Sweets
