HINTS FROM HELOISE: How you can keep your skin healthy
DEAR HELOISE: Every skin care company claims to have the perfect solution to staying young, but the truth is that lines and wrinkles are going to show up sooner or later. For many people, plastic surgery, skin peels and $200 creams are out of reach and might not do anything to remove the lines on your face. The best thing you can do for yourself is to prevent these lines in the first place.
Wear sunblock during the summer and winter; moisturize your skin (don’t forget your neck); never sleep in your makeup; and eat a healthy, balanced diet. Add to this a little exercise and try to stay within 5 pounds of your ideal weight –that is, no more than 5 pounds up or down. Yo-yo dieting can cause sagging skin and is hard on the body.
Find a skin care routine and stay with it, but remember, your skin tone changes as you age. So, the tints in your makeup need to be changed a little as your skin changes. A rosy pink may have looked great on you at 25, but not at 45.
If you smoke, please stop. This goes for vaping, too. Both are terrible for your skin. Take care of yourself and love the skin that you’re in!

DEAR HELOISE: I have very bushy eyebrows with a mind of their own. I trim some of the long hairs, but I found a way to keep the hairs in place and pushed up. I bought a cheap toothbrush, and every morning, I spray it with a little hairspray. While it’s still wet, I brush the hairs upward with the toothbrush. My brows stay neat all day long.

Carolyn, there are also gel products available that can keep your eyebrows neat and in place. They’re usually not too expensive and last for a while.

DEAR HELOISE:I have a problem with “product” buildup in my hair. I wash my hair every other day and use conditioner after each shampoo. I also make sure that I rinse out all the excess product in my hair. But my stylist still says that I have buildup, then tries to sell me some expensive bottle of goo to wash it out. How do I remove this buildup?

Kathy, mix together 2 tablespoons of vodka with 1 cup of seltzer. This will cut through hair product buildup. Be sure to use this as a final rinse after washing your hair. It’ll make your hair shine!
