Buckeye Lady Beetle Blitz Program
WHAT: Help track Ohio’s declining lady beetle populations by participating in this statewide community science project. Volunteers with flower or food gardens will place sticky traps for one week in June and one week in August. Participants will receive training, materials and instructions during this one-time workshop. No experience is needed.

Veggies & More Tour
WHAT: Join OSU Extension staff and master gardener volunteers to learn about growing practices, helpful tips and more. Bring a lawn chair for seating and a notepad.

Morning with the Masters: Planting

Educational Series: Eat Good, Feel Good
What: Community members are invited to take a step toward better health with the upcoming program, a three-part educational series focused on simple, practical ways to improve everyday nutrition and overall well-being. Each session is designed to provide participants with realistic strategies, helpful tips, and easy ideas to make healthier food choices that fit into their daily lives. All classes will be taught by OSU Extension Mahoning County’s Family and Consumer Sciences Educator LuAnn Duncan.
Participants are encouraged to attend all three sessions to get the full experience and build a strong foundation for lasting lifestyle changes. The program emphasizes that what we eat directly impacts how we feel — physically and mentally — and aims to empower individuals with knowledge they can immediately apply.
When: 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday

What: You will learn how to incorporate good, healthy cooking techniques and other practices to help control your blood sugar through our cooking school and nutrition education program designed for people with prediabetes or diabetes, and their family members or caregivers. Through this series of four interactive class sessions, you will learn ways to manage your diabetes by making healthy lifestyle choices.
When: 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday. The fourth session is called “Putting It All Together.”

Morning with the Masters: What is Citizen Science?
What: Learn ways you can participate in research projects and provide data to further scientific learning about key issues.

Series: One-Pot Garden
What: In partnership with Flying HIGH, Inc., this series offered by the OSU Extension Office is designed to educate community members on gardening techniques and food preparation using homegrown ingredients. It will provide participants with hands-on learning opportunities focused on growing, maintaining and utilizing garden produce. Attendees also will have the opportunity to sample simple dishes prepared with ingredients highlighted in each session.
When: 5:30 to 7 p.m. May 14
Where: 100 Broadway Ave., Youngstown.
Cost: Free, but advanced registration is required. Participants are encouraged to dress for outdoor conditions, as sessions will be held rain or shine. Seating will be provided. In the event of severe weather, cancellations will be announced by 10 a.m. on the Mahoning County Extension Facebook page.
