MCMHRB PARTNERS FOR INITIATIVE: The Mahoning County Mental Health and Recovery Board has partnered with Youngstown City Health District Office on Minority Health to launch its new initiative, Take That Step.

Funded by the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services, Take That Step is aimed at removing the barriers to physical and mental health care for minority populations throughout the county.

Led by Valerie Burney of the Mahoning County Mental Health and Recovery Board and Golie Stennis of the Youngstown City Health District Office on Minority Health, Take That Step will connect minority communities with the resources they need to live a better life, while raising awareness of the need to attend to both physical and mental health.

For information, contact Adrienne Sabo at adrienne@workwithclever.com or 330-501-9187.

FLU SHOT CLINIC: Mahoning County Public Health will have walk-in flu shot clinics throughout the county.

The department bills insurance for the vaccines and most insurers cover them.

Mahoning County Public Health is a Vaccines for Children program provider and will have limited opportunities for children who are uninsured or underinsured to receive the vaccine free.

The walk-in flu shot clinics are:

• Wednesday -- 10 a.m. to noon, Boardman United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall, 6809 Market St., Youngstown.

• Wednesday -- 2 to 5 p.m., Canfield United Methodist Church, 27 S. Broad St., Canfield.

DISPOSAL BAGS AT LIBRARIES: Mahoning County Public Health, in partnership with the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County, distributed Deterra Drug Disposal Bags at library locations. A limited supply will be available and one disposal bag will be permitted per family.

The Deterra Drug Deactivation and Disposal system is a simple, environmentally safe way to get rid of unneeded medications. The bag safely allows users to deactivate and dispose of unneeded pills, patches, liquids, creams and films at home.

As an alternative to the Deterra bags, unneeded medications can be disposed of at permanent drop-off locations in the lobbies at local law enforcement agencies and pharmacies.

Proper disposal of unneeded medications helps keep children, pets, and others safe from accidentally ingesting unused or expired medications; prevents them from being misused or stolen; and keeps the medication out of water and soil.
