Naturalist Series: The Many Lives
of Lichens
When: 6:30 p.m. Oct. 20
What: Jim Chatfield, associate professor and extension specialist, will discuss the lives of lichen, including multi-kingdom partnerships; when fungi became farmers; bioremediation; manna from heaven; caribou cuisine; natural dyes; antibiotics; and the mysteries and beauties of lichen life.

Making Hypertufa Containers for the Garden
When: 6 p.m. Oct. 25
What: Join Mahoning County Master Gardener Volunteers to make your own hypertufa container for the garden. These lightweight, stone-looking containers add beauty to the landscape and last for many years. Instructor is Pam Baytos.

Containers
When: 6 p.m., Nov. 15
What: Turn pots into holiday masterpieces. We’ll cover form and style, along with finding and using several kinds of greenery, berries and other cuttings from your landscape. Bring up to a 12-inch diameter pot to fill during the class to get a leg up on your holiday designs. Leave soil in pot and cut off plants; do not dig. Instructor is Pam Baytos.

Naturalist Series: Hunting Wild Mushrooms in Eastern Ohio
When: 6:30 p.m. Nov. 17
What: Erika Lyon, agriculture and natural resources educator, Jefferson and Harrison counties, will cover the ecology and identification of fungi along with the basics of hunting wild mushrooms. She also will cover common fungi found in eastern Ohio.

Wreaths for Our Veterans Ceremony
When: 10 to 11 a.m. Dec. 3
What: The Mahoning County Master Gardener Volunteers place wreaths on veterans’ graves. This is the 15th year for this ceremony. The wreaths are meant to honor their sacrifices and teach our younger generations about the high cost of our freedoms.
