SURVIVOR STORIES: The Vindicator again this year wishes to share stories of local breast cancer survivors during Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October. We also will honor the memories of those who lost their battle.

DENTAL CARE OFFERED: The Buhl Regional Health Foundation, in cooperation with the Hubbard Public Library and Mercy Health Foundation-

Mahoning Valley, will provide dental care for those without access to regular dental treatment. The Mobile Smile Station will be at the Hubbard Public Library parking lot, 436 W. Liberty St., Hubbard, Wednesday, and on Sept. 30, Oct. 21, Nov. 30 and Dec. 29.

OSTOMY SUPPORT: The Youngstown Area Ostomy Support Group will meet 6 to 7 p.m. Sept. 14 and Nov. 9 at the Tibbets Wick home care office, 979 Tibbets Wick Road, Suite A, Girard. It will meet 6 to 7 p.m. Oct. 12 and Dec. 14 at the Woodland Room at St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital, 8401 Market St., Boardman.

The ostomy support group provides a safe, caring place to tell your story among people who understand and share similar experiences and feelings. Family members and people considering an ostomy also are welcome. The group offers education, encouragement and support to anyone whose life is affected by an ostomy.

Parking is free, and light refreshments will be served.

WOMEN’S HEALTH CARE FACTS: The recent Supreme Court decision overturning Roe v. Wade has generated a great deal of information and misinformation about abortion and the impact on women’s health of restrictions on abortion access.

The League of Women Voters in Ohio is working to host a webinar, “POST-ROE: Women’s Healthcare in Ohio: Just the Facts” at 7 p.m. Sept. 8. This nonpartisan, fact-based event features maternal-fetal medicine and reproductive health physicians and a noted legal expert to develop a better understanding of these issues.

Free health screenings by Bios Wellness Urgent Care will be offered at the mall monthly. Guests will be able to receive free blood pressure screenings, heart-rate checks and the opportunity to chat with a medical professional.

EATING DISORDER HELP: Due to ongoing construction at the Church of Notre Dame, 2325 Highland Road, Hermitage, Pa., the National Association for Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia and other Eating Disorders will not meet in August. COVID CLINIC: The Warren City Health Department will be holding childhood / COVID immunization clinic from 9 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m. Aug. 22.

The department will have a walk-in COVID-19 clinic for ages 12 and over, from 9 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday and also Aug. 24 and 31, no appointment necessary. All clinics are walk-in basis.

ALZHEIMER GARAGE SALE: Alzheimer Network volunteers will hold the annual garage sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Aug. 26 and 27 and from 9 to 11 a.m. Aug. 28, at the Western Reserve United Methodist Church, 4580 Canfield Road, between Cornersburg and Canfield.

NARCAN FOR OVERDOSES: The Trumbull County Combined Health District urges residents to help slow the increase of overdoses in the community by taking advantage of free Narcan through the district.

Narcan quickly reverses the effects of opioids such as heroin and fentanyl, and anyone can be trained by one of the district’s employees to administer the life-saving medication and receive a free kit containing two doses.

CAREGIVER SUPPORT: The Alzheimer’s Association’s Greater East Ohio Area Chapter makes Alzheimer’s caregiver support groups available free of charge. They are open to all caregivers, family members and friends with a loved one affected by the disease or another form of dementia.

STOP THE BLEED: Mercy Health will offer a free training session called Stop the Bleed Save A Life 8 to 9 p.m. Aug. 16 and Aug. 23, at Good Hope Lutheran Church, 98 Homestead Drive, Boardman.

The training was developed to teach people to quickly respond to someone bleeding, which can be a life-threatening situation. This class is designed for individuals 10 and older and takes about 45 minutes.
