HERITAGE MANOR AWARDED GRANT: The Youngstown Foundation granted $2,500 to Heritage Manor Rehabilitation and Retirement Community for its telehealth program.

Heritage Manor is adding technologies that help reduce the number of falls significantly; capture and analyze heart health; increase communication between staff, residents and families; and allow for standardized, evidence-based nursing assessments to assure complete and thorough nursing care.

Heritage Manor provides an adult day services program and is the only Veterans Administration-approved provider of long-term care in Mahoning County. Heritage Manor is an agency of the Youngstown Area Jewish Federation.

FOOD DELIVERY: Direction Home of Eastern Ohio is partnering with various agencies for Families First Coronavirus Response Act funding for no-contact food deliveries to seniors 60 and older.

Agencies for Mahoning and Columbiana counties include Easter Seals, 330-884-2513, and Jewish Family Services, 330-746-7929.

ALZHEIMER HELP ONLINE: The Alzheimer's Association's online Community Resource Finder at alz.org/crf provides ZIP code area-specific information on topics such as care at home, community services and housing options.

The Alzheimer's Association offers numerous caregiver support groups virtually. A number of dial-in telephone support groups have been added for additional support.

Once per week, lunch will be delivered while they participate in either game time, television, movies or guest speakers.

OMBUDSMAN PROGRAM: Direction Home of Eastern Ohio is looking for volunteers to join the Ombudsman Program to advocate for excellence for those living in long-term care facilities.

Ombudsman help ensure that residents of long-term care facilities receive quality care and treatment. Volunteers will make phone calls and virtual visits to residents.

The training to become a certified volunteer will be provided virtually. Call 330-505-2338 for more information.

NARFE CANCELS MEETINGS: NARFE National Active and Retired Federal Employees Chapter 14 is canceling its spring meetings through June due to COVID-19 concerns. Meetings should resume in September. Refer questions to Nancy at 330-953-0077.

TEACHERS SUSPEND LUNCHEONS: The Mahoning Retired Teachers Association has suspended luncheon meetings for May and June due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A determination will be made at a later date as to the luncheon meetings for September, November and December.

Volunteers will walk through the concourse to pick up AmeriCorps Seniors swag, game tickets and a boxed lunch. Everyone will be required to wear a mask and social distance.

More than 520 volunteers have given $1,180,698 worth of National Service work in Family and Community Services Inc. in areas across Ohio. Some of the opportunities include helping a struggling child to learn to read; delivering groceries to an elderly neighbor; or supporting a family impacted by natural disaster.

FALL PREVENTION GUIDE: The Ohio Department of Public Safety Division of EMS joined with the Ohio Injury Prevention Partnership and released an updated "Elderly Fall Prevention Resource Guide" for EMS providers and the general public.
