"Symphonic Sorcery" will open the Youngstown Symphony Orchestra's 2026-27 season.

Music Director Erik Ochsner will conduct the program, which mixes classical works with movie and television scores.

The pop culture nods include John Williams' suite from "Jaws," Bernard Hermann's suite from "Psycho," Andrew Lloyd Webber's overture to "The Phantom of the Opera" and Marius Constant's theme from "The Twilight Zone."

Among the classical works known for the cinematic inclusions are Modest Mussorgsky's "Night on Bald Mountain," used in Disney's "Fantasia," and Bela Bartok's “Music for Strings, Percussion and Celestia,” featured in "The Shining."

Other selections includes Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's overture to "The Magic Flute," Anatoly Liadov's "The Enchanted Lake Op. 62," Karl Goldmark's "Merlin" overture, Manuel de Falla's Ritual Fire Dance from "El amor brujo," Richard Wagner's Magic Fire Music from "Die Walkure," Camille Saint-Saens' "Danse Macabre," Antonin Dvorak's "The Noon Witch" and Igor Stravinsky's Infernal Danse from "Firebird."

In his program notes, Ochsner writes, "This concert is meant not only to be family friendly -- featuring numerous shorter pieces -- but also a dramatic way to kick off the Halloween season with music inspired by something magical or spooky. There are no images, screens or tablets -- only what your mind creates from what you hear. May your days be eerie, and full of fright!"

The concert starts at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Stambaugh Auditorium, 1000 Fifth Ave., Youngstown. Tickets range from $30.85 to $79.20 and are available through Ticketmaster.

Starting at /week.
