Sinister Horror Fest features ‘Sinister’ actor

The mood will be "Sinister" this weekend at Skyway Drive-In in Leavittsburg.

The drive-in hosts the fourth Sinister Horror Fest, presented by Niles-based clothing company Dead Ink Apparel. Among the special guests will be Nicholas King, who played Bughuul/Mr. Boogie in the 2012 film "Sinister" and its 2015 sequel.

Both screens will feature horror triple bills starting at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and the lineup includes a mix of low-budget indie horror and major theatrical releases.

Friday features "Fright Night" (1985), "An American Werewolf in London" (1981) and "The Barn 3" on screen one and "Slither" (2006), "The Blob" (1988) and "Axeman at Cutter's Creek 2" on screen two. Justin Seaman, director of "The Barn" franchise, also will be in attendance.

Saturday's movie lineup includes "The Ring" (2002), "Sinister" (2012) and "No Witnesses” (2026) on screen one and "Videodrome" (1983), "Terrorvision" (1986) and "Closing Time" (2024) on screen two.

Tickets are required for the movie screenings for $10 with children ages 4 to 11 admitted for $5 and available at skywaydrivein.com.

Free admission is offered from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, which will include a trunk or treat, free laser tag, bounce house, vendors market, a children's costume contest (ages 12 and younger) at 1 p.m., adult costume contest (ages 13 and older ) at 3:30 p.m. and photo ops with King (for a fee).

Ward Beecher Planetarium will have twice as many shows this weekend to accommodate the expected crowds for its Wizarding Weekend.

The annual event caters to fans of the Harry Potter books and its various spinoffs. Attendees will learn about the night sky and its impact on the wizarding world. Attendees will be tested on their knowledge of the young wizards.

Show times are 7 and 8:30 pm. Friday and 1, 2:30, 7 and 8:30 p.m. Saturday. Admission is free. Doors will open about 30 minutes before each program, and seating will be available on a first-come, first-seated basis.

Costumes are welcome.

Up to 75,000 people will attend each day of the Austin City Limits Festival, which runs for the next two weekends in Austin, Texas.

Local music fans won't have to buy a plane ticket or pay admission fees to catch many of the performers.

Disney+ and Hulu will be streaming select performances on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Among those listed on Hulu's website are The War on Drugs, featuring Youngstown's Anthony LaMarca. The War on Drugs is scheduled to play at 8:30 p.m. EST/7:30 p.m. CST Sunday.

Other acts whose sets will be streamed include Charli xcx, Twenty One Pilots, Lorde, Skrillex, The xx, Audrey Hobert, Bleachers, Brandon Flowers, Geese, Finn Wolfhard, Suki Waterhouse and Turnstile.

Opening Tuesday is the 17th Chagrin Documentary Film Festival.

This year's festival will feature 74 documentaries selected from the 600 submissions received from 31 countries. It will include 10 world premieres and 23 U.S., Midwest or Ohio debuts.

The opening night film is "Hanging by a Wire," about a cable car malfunction in the Himalayas that left eight people stranded. It debuted earlier this year at the Sundance Film Festival and will be shown Tuesday at the Chagrin Falls Intermediate School theater, starting with a reception at 5:30 p.m.

Movies will be screened at various locations in Chagrin Falls through Oct. 11, and many will be available to purchase for streaming through the CDFF on Demand platform. For the complete lineup or more information, go to chagrinfilmfest.org.
