GSO, ACTS play America250 concert

The Greenville Symphony Orchestra and ACTS Performing Arts Center will team up for an America250 concert at Thiel College.

Eighteen vocalists from ACTS will join the orchestra for an afternoon of music from the Great American Songbook along with patriotic tunes.. Selections include "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy," "God Bless America," "Over the Rainbow" and "Battle Hymn of the Republic."

Featured soloists include Alan Anderson, Thomas Perman and Christina Russo. The singers and chorus are directed by Allan Mosher, retired professor of voice from Youngstown State University's Dana School of Music.

The concert opens the 98th season of the GSO, which is led by Music Director and Conductor Michael Gelfand.

This concert is the culmination of Mercer County's 250th anniversary celebration and has been funded by the America 250 Mercer County Committee, First National Bank, Sharon American Legion and the Reynolds, Mercer and Hermitage VFW Posts.

The concert starts at 3 p.m. Saturday at William A Passavant Center, 38 Packard Ave., Greenville, Pa. Tickets are $23.18 in advance at actspac.org or thegreenvillesymphony.org or $25 at the door the day of the performance.
