Program celebrates century of broadcasting
The Mahoning Valley Historical Society will celebrate 100 years of local broadcasting with an event today at the Tyler History Center, 325 W. Federal St., Youngstown.
The evening will include a panel discussion moderated by Stan Boney and featuring local broadcasting personalities Michelle Nicks, Rich Morgan and Lynn Williamson. On Sept. 26, 1926, Warren P. Williamson Jr. set up an antenna to send the first WKBN radio signal.
The program starts at 6:30 p.m., and admission is free.
Train show moves to Saxon Club
The Iron and Steel Fall Train Show is scheduled Saturday at its new location, the Youngtown Saxon Club, 710 S. Meridian Road.
The event will include train sets, locomotives, rolling stock, accessories and other model train items.
It will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and admission is $8 with children ages 12 and younger admitted free.
Fairgrounds hosting Dinosaur Adventure
Prehistoric creatures will roam Canfield Fairgrounds this weekend.
The touring event Dinosaur Adventure will be at the fairgrounds' Michael Kusalaba Event Center from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday with sensory-friendly access at 8:30 a.m. Sunday. It includes life-size animatronic dinosaurs as well as rides, bounce houses, Jurassic scooters, fossil digs, a coloring station and entertainment.

Warren native to give talk on LeBron James
Author David Lee Morgan Jr. will talk about his book "The LeBron Phenomenon: My Front-Row Seat to History" at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library, 444 Mahoning Ave. NW, Warren.
As a former sportswriter for the Akron Beacon Journal, the Warren native started covering James' on-court exploits as a highly touted high school athlete and before he became known as "King James."
The program is free. Copies of Morgan's book will be available for purchase.
Book event plans 'Dolly Day' donation
Organizers of the Mahoning Valley Book Bazaar, which will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 7 at the Boardman Holiday Inn, are offering a "9-2-5" promotion Friday in conjunction with “Give Like Dolly Day."
Half of the money from $10 tickets purchased on Friday for the author event will be donated to The Dolly Parton Imagination Library. Parton died last month at age 80, and people are honoring her memory on 9/25, a nod to her song "9 to 5."
The event will feature more than 70 authors, bookstores, publishers and other book-related vendors. Tickets are available at POP! Art Books Culture in Boardman and online at mvbookbazaar.com.
Press club presents voting access forum
The Youngstown Press Club will present a forum on defending the ballot box at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 20 at the Jewish Community Center of Youngstown, 505 Gypsy Lane.
The panelists will be Kathy Boockvar, former secretary of state and chief election official in Pennsylvania; Lisa Lee Kohler, regional coordinator for election protection and president of the League of Women Voters of Greater Youngstown; Jen Miller, executive director of the League of Women Voters of Ohio; and Melissa Wasko, deputy director of the Mahoning County Board of Elections.
The moderator will be David Skolnick, politics reporter for The Tribune Chronicle and The Vindicator. Adam Chase, a Mahoning County sheriff’s deputy, will discuss ballot collection and security.
The cost is $10 and pre-registration is required by Oct. 14 at youngstownpressclub.com. No walk-ins will be admitted. All attendees must show a photo ID to enter.
