DRIVE BY RECOGNITION: Holy Family Parish, 2729 Center Road, Poland, will honor the retirement of Monsignor William Connell with a drive-by celebration at noon today.

Connell will stand at the rectory on his last day. People are asked to decorate their cars to show appreciation to Connell.

ASSUMPTION PILGRIMAGE: The 55th annual Assumption Pilgrimage will take place today at the Basilica and National Shrine of Our Lady of Lebanon, 2759 N. Lipkey Road, North Jackson. The event will include Mass, confessions, anointing of the sick, a candlelight procession, a band concert and food.

The shrine opens at 9 a.m.; Maronite liturgy and anointing of the sick, 10 a.m.; choir concert, 2 p.m.; spiritual conference with Monsignor William Bonczawski, pastor of Our Lady of the Cedars Church in Fairlawn, 4 p.m.; band concert, 5 p.m.; Maronite Pontificial Liturgy with Bishops Elias Zaiden, eparchy of Our Lady of Lebanon in Los Angeles, and Bishop Gregory Mansour, eparchy of St. Maron in Brooklyn, N.Y., 7 p.m.; and candlelight procession, 8 p.m.

ASSUMPTION CELEBRATION: Christ the Good Shepherd St. Lucy Church, 394 Tenney Ave., Campbell, will hold a traditional Assumption celebration 5 p.m. today at the Palermo Center, with Mass followed by a traditional procession through the streets and culminating with a reception at the center.

CHURCH PICNIC: Mount Sinai Missionary Baptist Church, 317 S. Forest St., Youngstown, will hold an outdoor picnic 12:30 p.m. Sunday with baptism and preaching.

RETURN TO WORSHIP: Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 140 Cherry Ave. NW, will resume in-person worship 10 a.m. Sunday. Masks are required. Doors open at 9:45 a.m.

• Friendship Baptist Church, 1954 Brier St. SE, Warren, will hold in-person worship 10:30 a.m. Sunday. Worshippers are asked to arrive a half hour earlier to follow health protocols. Host pastor is the Rev. A.M. Odom.

• One Nation Kingdom Ministries will meet 10 a.m. Sunday at the Focus Building, 2051 Niles Road, Warren, for a drive-up service. A Bible study will be livestreamed at 6 p.m. Wednesday on the church’s Facebook page.

• Outdoor worship 9:30 a.m. Sundays at Grace United Methodist Church, 1825 Drexel Ave. NW, Warren, will continue until further notice. Those attending can bring a lawn chair. In case of inclement weather, the service will move indoors. Face masks are required.

EXTENDED MASS: The Shrine of Our Lady, 577 S. Belle Vista Ave, Youngstown, is offering an extended Mass schedule to accommodate parishioners during the pandemic: 7 a.m., 9 a.m. and noon Mondays to Saturdays, with vigil Mass 5:30 p.m. Saturday and 7 a.m., 9:30 a.m. and noon Sunday.

The book of Mass Intentions for 2021 can be made by phone, mail or walk-in. The cost is $10.

SERIES POSTPONED: Due to the ongoing COVID-19 health emergency, the First Friday Club of Greater Youngstown, with input from the Diocese of Youngstown, has decided to pause the monthly luncheons. Plans are to resume the season in spring 2021 at the latest.

DRIVE-UP SERVICES: One Nation Kingdom Ministries will welcome guest Apostle Jennifer Campbell 10 a.m. Aug. 23 for a drive-up service in the parking lot at the FOCUS Building, 2051 Niles Road SE, Warren.

CELEBRATION OF THE FEAST: Basilica and National Shrine of Our Lady of Lebanon, 2759 N. Lipkey Road, North Jackson, will hold the Celebration of the Feast of St. Rocco on Aug. 23.

The schedule is Maronite Divine Liturgy with celebrant Chorbishop Anthony Spinosa, rector of the shrine, 10 a.m.; a procession with the statue of St. Rocco, 11 a.m.; and lunch, 11:30 a.m.

METAPHYICS OFFERED: The Unity Church Centre, 1226 Naylor Lloyd Road, Liberty, will offer OM Ongoing Metaphysics classes virtually 6:45 to 8:15 p.m. Tuesday. A conversation and discussion will end with chanting mantras.

Discussion will be on the mantras associated with the third cakra (solar plexus), dealing with removal of anger, among other things, plus some Surya (sun) mantras.

HOLY SENIOR GROUP: Due to the current coronavirus situation, the Holy Family Seniors Group will not meet this month. The group’s leadership hopes to resume meeting in September.

BASEMENT OUTREACH: Since the coronavirus started, Basement Outreach Ministries in Warren has been helping to provide food and other items to more than 500 families. Basement Outreach Ministries was designed to provide groceries and urgent supplies; delivery of meals; prayer for callers or someone the caller requests; and homeless assistance.

Both monetary and food are needed. The Basement Outreach Ministries is a tax-exempt organization. All donations are tax deductible to the full extent of IRS regulations.

NUN RUN FUNDRAISER: The Ursuline Sisters would have held the sixth annual Nun Run 5k Run and 1-mile walk fundraiser to support children served by the Ursuline Sisters. Due to the uncertainty around COVID-19 and possible future restrictions, the organization has decided the month of November will be the first Virtual Nun Run.

The virtual race can be run (or walked) from any location at any time during the month of November. The proceeds from the event will benefit the children served by the Ursuline Sisters HIV / AIDS Ministry and the Ursuline preschool and kindergarten.

To be guaranteed a race T-shirt and finisher medal, registration must be received by Oct. 7. Also, participants can “Run for a Nun” by signing up to run in honor of an Ursuline Sister.
