Don’t assume socialism’s inevitable failures will stop it from spreading. New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani recently announced his government-run grocery stores will offer products at a 30% discount. The appeal of this plan is obvious. Everyone would like to pay less for milk, eggs and ...
What is the death count under Donald Trump? We’re not talking about loss of life in his war with Iran. We’re not talking about natural deaths by aging or unpreventable diseases. We mean Americans who die because they refuse safe vaccines that Trump or his health secretary, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., questions or discourages. A recent occurrence of death and suffering comes from the refusal by many parents to let doctors give their newborns a vitamin K shot. Infants are naturally deficient in vitamin K, which helps prevent blood clots and internal bleeding, which can be horrific. K is a ...
Though a state workgroup has recommended “comprehensive system change” for public school transportation, there is little agreement about what that change might look like, or how Ohio can accomplish the goal to “ease current system challenges and build the new system foundation.” According to a report by the Ohio Capital Journal, one major challenge is the shortage in people willing to be bus drivers. This summer, my son learned to tread water in the deep end, worked through awkward guitar chords and chased pickleballs that sailed just beyond his reach. It’s the learning spaces that matter. Sure, I have an ...
“The federal officials are now telling us that they do not have any plans, they’ve received no instructions, to have any kind of raids in Springfield,” Gov. Mike DeWine told Statehouse News Bureau last week. “Now, that can change, but they did tell us they’ve heard nothing.” Given how vocal DeWine has been about the federal government making a mistake with its planned end to temporary protected status for thousands of Haitians in the Buckeye State, it’s possible immigration officials just don’t want to tip their hand. Still, it’s possible they are listening to ...
In a display of Stockholm Syndrome, the White House Correspondents’ Association invited Donald Trump to be the keynote speaker at its annual festival of self-appreciation. Because he is who he is, he did not take the opportunity to do the kind of gentle press ribbing that past presidents have engaged in, and he certainly declined to engage in the self-deprecating humor that charmed audiences in the old days. Instead, he delivered a string of puerile insults that would be beneath a fifth grader. The tuxedo and ball gown-clad lads and ladies were forced to sit through meandering ...
