WARREN -- A Guyton, Ga., woman was convicted Thursday of a felony charge connected to an Aug. 17, incident, when she was found by Girard police behind the wheel of a vehicle reported stolen out of Maryland.
Sydney A. Hale, 26, pleaded guilty to a charge of receiving stolen property and a misdemeanor falsification charge. She will be sentenced by Trumbull County Common Pleas Judge Ronald J. Rice after she undergoes a background investigation by the adult probation department.
When her defense attorney asked for a pretrial release, Rice refused -- saying the $5,000 bond was sufficient for someone who is an out-of-state resident and gave a false name after her arrest.
According to a Girard police report, Hale was found sitting in the driver's seat of a 2014 Honda Civic that was reported stolen by Maryland authorities. After a short police chase, the woman was apprehended, prosecutors said, but she gave a false name to the officers and was processed into the Trumbull County jail under that identification.
According to assistant Prosecutor Ryan Sanders, jail authorities discovered Hale's true identity and she was charged with the misdemeanor falsification.
Hale, who faces a maximum two-year prison sentence, remains in Trumbull County jail pending the posting of the bond. Jail records also show that Hale is wanted on an out-of-state warrant.
