Cavaliers face Pacers in must-win Game 3
The Cleveland Cavaliers took on the Indiana Pacers in a critical Game 3 in the playoffs on Friday night. But unlike Tuesday, the Cavs had a little extra help.
Darius Garland, Evan Mobley and De’Andre Hunter missed Cleveland’s heartbreaking loss to the Pacers in Game 2 as Indiana took a 2-0 lead in the series. But all three were back on the court for the must-win contest.
The Cavaliers started 2 of 3 from behind the 3-point line. The strong offensive start in the first three minutes allowed Cleveland to take an 11-0 lead.
Indiana responded with a 10-0 run to cut the deficit to 25-20 with four minutes left in the first quarter. A 3-pointer by Ben Sheppard tied the game at 32 with one second left in the first quarter.
Cleveland’s lead grew to 57-40 with three minutes to play in the second quarter.
The Cavaliers’ took their offense and defense to another level in the second quarter. They outscored the Pacers 34-13 in the quarter to take a 66-45 lead into the locker room.
Cleveland’s Donovan Mitchell led all scorers at halftime, posting 17 points with five rebounds and three assists. Jarrett Allen and Max Strus each scored 13 points, and Mobley added 10 points and nine rebounds.
Garland got into foul trouble early, picking up his fourth foul in the second. He was limited to five points and two assists.
The Cavs held a 35-17 advantage on the boards and 34-18 edge in points in the paint.
For Indiana, Bennedict Mathurin led the way in the first half with 13 points, and Myles Turner had 12 points. Tyrese Haliburton, who hit the game-winning shot in Game 2, was held to 1-for-6 shooting for two points.
