Eric J. Gelsomino, 1961-2021

MINERAL RIDGE — Eric J. Gelsomino, 60, passed away peacefully at 7:19 p.m. Friday, Oct. 15, 2021, at St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital, following complications of COVID pneumonia.

Eric was born June 10, 1961, in Youngstown, the son of Peter J. and Phyllis J. Santisi Gelsomino.

Eric has lived in Trumbull County all his life and was a 1979 graduate of Ursuline High School and received a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from Youngstown State University.

He was the co-owner, with his sister Michele, of the Niles Sparkle Market since the death of his father in 2013. The Niles Sparkle has been a family-owned business for many years in downtown Niles. Eric attended the North Mar Christian and Missionary Alliance Church of Warren, and was a member of the Ohio State Highway Patrol Auxiliary since 2014.

In 2015 , Eric received the Warren Post and District Auxiliary Award of the year. He was a past president and longtime board member of Niles Community Services and sponsored the annual Can the Cruiser food drive with the state troopers at the Sparkle store to support Niles Community Services. He was a member of the Weathersfield Township Zoning Board and enjoyed golfing, the care of his home and yard and was an avid car enthusiast.

Eric is survived by his wife, Trish Gelsomino, whom he married June 17, 2017; a son, Eric Peter (Melissa) Gelsomino and grandson, Ercole, all of Uniontown; daughter, Gina Gelsomino of Warren; two sisters, Annette (Michael) Ciletti of Vienna and Michele Gelsomino of Girard; two nieces, Kayla and Sara Ciletti; and many extended family members and relatives.

Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2021 at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home, Niles. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2021 at the North Mar Church, Market Street, Warren, with visitation for one hour prior to the services at the church. The Rev. Paul Armitage will officiate.

Eric will be buried with his parents in Resurrection Cemetery.
