YSU teams return to Ohio Tuesday

The Youngstown State men and women’s teams are back in Ohio on Tuesday for first-round Horizon League Tournament games.

The Penguin men locked up the fifth seed after losing Thursday at Green Bay and finished off the regular season Saturday with a 73-69 win at Milwaukee. which has lost five straight.

YSU (17-14, 10-8 Horizon League) hosts the eighth-seeded Panthers Tuesday in a Horizon League Tournament game, starting at 7 p.m. Milwaukee defeated the Penguins on Jan. 23, 75-73, in overtime in Youngstown.

Darius Quisenberry had 24 points to pace YSU on Saturday — his second-straight game with more than 20 points. Garrett Covington had 16 points and eight rebounds, while Devin Morgan added 11 points and Michael Akuchie grabbed seven boards.

DeAndre Abram paced Milwaukee (12-18, 7-11) with 18 points and 12 rebounds.

On the other side of Wisconsin, the YSU women ended the regular season with a 71-51 loss at Green Bay.

The Penguins (13-16, 6-12) are the seventh seed in the upcoming tournament — heading to sixth-seeded Cleveland State (19-9, 9-9) Tuesday at 7 p.m.

McKenah Peters led YSU with 15 points on Saturday.

YSU and CSU split the season series. The Vikings beat the Penguins at the Wolstein Center on Jan. 16, 60-52, while YSU beat CSU on Feb. 15, 84-72.
