The T.C. Caffey show is hitting the road and the Hubbard Eagles (4-0) are looking to remain perfect on the year when they travel to Struthers (2-2) for their first road game of the season.

The Eagles and Wildcats are meeting for the 88th time in a rivalry which began in 1916. Struthers leads the series 54-33, however Hubbard has won 16 of the last 20 meetings. Struthers last defeated Hubbard in 2017.

A week ago, Ursuline scored 48 points and it was just enough to defeat Austintown Fitch 48-47. On the same night, Warren G. Harding scored 46 points and it wasn’t enough in a 49-46 loss to Massillon.

Now, the Irish and Raiders will match high-octane offenses when the two teams clash tonight at Mollenkopf Stadium.

Tonight’s slate of games marks the halfway point of the 2021 regular season.

Harding (1-3) has lost to a trio of teams (Massillon, Hudson, Medina) who are a combined 11-1. In addition to scoring 46 points against Massillon, Harding’s win was a 55-0 shutout over Youngstown East.

Ursuline (3-1) suffered its lone loss to Chardon (4-0). The Irish are averaging 46.8 points per game.

Tonight marks the eighth- straighth year that Ursuline and Harding will meet on the gridiron. Since renewing the rivalry in 2014, the Raiders own a 4-3 advantage, including a current three game winning streak.

Poland (2-2) won the inaugural Northeast-8 Conference title in 2019. South Range (4-0) won the league championship a year ago. Now the two teams will meet in a game which could go a long way in determining this year’s title winner.

South Range owns a 13-2 record in league play since the inception of the NE-8. Poland is 13-2 in the conference during the same time period. The Raiders have won 11 consecutive league games and 14 straight regular season games.

It’s been exactly 20 years and two days since Youngstown Cardinal Mooney (0-4) began its season by losing four straight. The Cardinals will look to avoid a fifth straight setback when they host Austintown Fitch (2-1) at the Joe Lane Sports Complex in Mineral Ridge.

Fitch is coming off its first loss of the season in its setback to Ursuline.

West Branch (4-0) continues to stay perfect and it continues to put up video game-like numbers on offense. The Warriors are averaging 51 points per game, however their opponents to this point are a combined 4-11. The Warriors will likely get tested tonight against a Canton South team which is 3-1.

Salem (4-0) also remains unbeaten while scoring a lot of points. The Quakers – averaging 45.8 points per game — travel to Alliance. The Aviators (1-3) picked up their first win of the season last week with a 56-6 win over Minerva.

Garrettsville Garfield (4-0) made a statement in its first-ever game in the Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference with a 35-14 win over previously-unbeaten LaBrae. The G-Men look to remain perfect when they host Newton Falls (2-2).

McDonald is poised to play its final game at A.A. Burkey Stadium — again. The Blue Devils originally celebrated their final game at the stadium last October in their regular-season finale against Waterloo. A week later, the Devils hosted a playoff game. Then, construction issues at the McDonald’s new stadium twice delayed scheduled openings this year.

McDonald (1-3) will celebrate homecoming and host Sebring tonight at A.A. Burkey Stadium. A week from today, the Blue Devils will christen the McDonald Athletic Complex with a home game against Springfield.

Warren John F. Kennedy and Niles McKinley will become the 12th and 13th area schools to miss at least one of their first five scheduled games. Kennedy was scheduled to host Fairport Harding, however the Skippers had to cancel for a second straight week due to a lack of players. Fairport Harding (0-3) last played on Sept. 3. The result was a 66-0 loss to Middlefield Cardinal.

Niles’ scheduled game at Jefferson was canceled because of COVID issues within the Niles program.
