Mathews’ Landis is perfect; Warriors roll

Softball

Becca Landis threw a perfect game for Mathews in a regular season win over Bloomfield. Landis struck out 11 and had three hits. The Mustangs run-ruled their opponents in all 16 league contests this year.

Jordan Anderson threw a six-inning no-hitter and had three hits and three RBIs as fifth-seeded West Branch defeated No. 26 Ravenna 11-0 in a Division II first-round sectional contest. Skyler Greeneisen singled, doubled and drove in three runs.

Emily Holland and Paige Odgen combined for nine strikeouts during a five-inning one-hitter as top-seeded Ursuline defeated No. 23 Campbell 17-0 in a Division III first-round sectional game. Holland also doubled twice and Ogden drove in two runs. Maris Barbato and Liza Barbato both homered and Liza drove in three runs as did Alyssa Sheely.

Springfield took advantage of six walks and four errors to score a 9-0 win over Conneaut in a first-round sectional matchup. Abby Joseph struck out 14 and had a triple in the win. The Tigers advance to face South Range.

Rylie Troy struck out 15 batters and recorded two hits in a 6-3 win for the Quakers over Streetsboro. Salem faces Canfield on Thursday.

Mineral Ridge started off its playoff run by beating Cardinal 21-2. Courtney Boyer and Madison Ylonen each had three hits. Ylonen also had four RBIs. The Rams travel to East Canton tonight at 5 p.m.

Baseball

Nick Demonica threw a two-hitter with 16 strikeouts and one walk in Lakeview’s 7-2 win over Struthers. At the plate, Demonica doubled, tripled and drove in four runs.
