Blue Devils edge Salem; Warriors nip Minerva

¯ SOUTH RANGE 72, BOARDMAN 36: BEAVER TOWNSHIP — The Raiders ran roughshod over the Spartans during the South Range Holiday Classic, as Izzy Lamparty pumped in 26 points.

The hosts used a 22-9 scoring advantage in the second quarter to pull out to a 33-18 cushion and led 47-28 entering the final quarter. Lexi Giles scored 11 points and Bree Kohler and Gabby Lamparty scored 10 points apiece.

Emma Mills scored 10 points and Katie Stamp added nine points for Boardman.

¯ WESTERN RESERVE 39, SALEM 36: BEAVER TOWNSHIP — The Blue Devils improved to 6-0 by edging Salem in overtime in the South Rane Holiday Classic.

Olivia Pater led Western Reserve with 11 points and ennedy Miller and Brooke Schantz scored eight points apiece The Blue Devils used a 16-5 fourth-quarter scoring advantage to force overtime at 36-all before shutting out the Quakers in the extra session.

Danielle Vuletich contributed eight rebounds.

Kyla Jamison scored 14 points and Annie Davidson added nine points for Salem.

¯ SPRINGFIELD 78, SEBRING 44: NEW MIDDLETOWN — Jacey Mullen erupted for 31 points and Kylee Kosek supported her Tigers’ teammate with 18 points and Springfield rolled to victory.

Mullen and Kosek both made three of the Tigers’ seven 3-pointers. Abby Joseph added nine points, one more than Madi Lesnak.

Emma Whaley scored 22 points and Aebi D’Ostroph scored 11 for the Trojans.

¯ WEST BRANCH 39, MINERVA 36: MINERVA — Anna Lippiatt led the Warriors with 11 points in a nailbiting league victory over Minerva.

West Branch outscored the Lions 16-6 in the second quarter, but Minerva wouldn’t give up, holding close with the Warriors throughout.

The Warriors outrebounded the Lions 31-28.

The win puts West Branch at 9-2 on the year and 4-1 in the Eastern Buckeye Conference.

¯ STRUTHERS 57, JACKSON-MILTON 40: STRUTHERS — The Wildcats got out to an early lead over Jackson-Milton and maintained it throughout to win.

Struthers was led by Chloe Neider who had 14 points. Ella Croyle had 12 points and Taylor Susany added nine.

The Blue Jays were led by Ava Darney who had 16 points. Both Kylie Wilson and Kelsie Taylor scored 10.

¯ MARLINGTON 42, URSULINE 33: BEAVER TOWNSHIP — After holding the Dukes to three points in the first quarter, the Fighting Irish weren’t able to maintain the lead as they fall to Marlington in the South Range Holiday Tournament.

Anisah Moorman led the Irish with 13 points and Lily Scott added 10.

The Dukes remain undefeated. Ursuline falls to 3-2.

Boys basketball

¯ STRUTHERS 60, MASSILLON PERRY 49: MASSILLON — Trey Metzka scored 15 points and Brandon Washington added 13, as the Wildcats took a 10-point lead at halftime and held off the host Panthers.

Aidan Slocum supplied nine points for Struthers.

¯ GRAND VALLEY 65, COLUMBIANA 47: COLUMBIANA — Ashton Zupancic scored a game-high 23 points for the Mustangs in a win over Columbiana.

Zupancic led Grand Valley with 23 points. Hogan Hejduk scored 12, Derek Jackson had 11 and Nate Boiarski added 10.

Leading for Columbiana was Nick Million who scored 12 and Anthony Hall who scored 10.

Grand Valley moves to 3-3 on the year while Columbiana falls to 1-4.

¯ UNITED 55, SEBRING 47: HANOVERTON — United Local outscored its guest 13-2 in a decisive second quarter to take a 24-10 halftime lead and hold off the Trojans, who fell to 1-6 overall with the nonleague loss.

Seven Golden Eagles dented the scoring column, led by 15 points from Nate Miller, 10 from Keaton Baker and nine from Nevin Hahlen.

Sebring got 16 points, incluing four 3-pointers from Connor Shepherd. Matt Byrd chipped in 11 points.

¯ CARDINAL MOONEY 65, FITCH 48: YOUNGSTOWN — The host Cardinal used a 20-13 scoring advantage in the second period to stake a 34-25 lead and used a 16-9 scoring push on the foul line to down the Falcons.

Thomas Fire and Mike Pelini combined for 33 points to spark the Cardinals and Mick Hergenrother and Drew Pecchia added 10 points apiece. Fife led the way with 19 points and Pelini finished with 14.

Allen Underwood netted 16 points to Todd Simons scored 13 to pace the Falcons.
