Poland runners sweep Northeast-8 meet

GIRARD — Poland’s Logan Flament and Halle Sebest won individual boys and girls titles to lead their Bulldogs cross country teams to Northeast-8 titles at Liberty Park.

Flament beat out teammate Jet Bailey for the boys title (17:32.27 to 17:47.68), while Lakeview’s Nate Charnas took third (17:52.12). Poland beat out South Range for the team title, 28 to 58.

Sebest led the trio of Poland runners to lead the Bulldog girls to the team title over Lakeview, 23-61. Sebest ran 19:48.67, while teammates Gianna Stanich (21:22.03) and Jackie Grisdale (21:29.39) took second and third, respectively.

PAUL PRIMEAU INVITATIONAL: GATES MILLS — Howland junior Lane Goble took second at Friday’s meet at Gilmour Academy High School in 17:08.8, just behind Akron Firestone’s Clay Peets (16:52.0). Howland’s Zachary Brill was 25th (18:20.2) as the Tigers finished seventh in the team standings of the boys gray division with 164 points.

U WANNA COME BACK XC INVITATIONAL: MADISON — Boardman’s Frank Bero won the boys varsity title in 16:10.20, while teammates Mitchel Dunham was seventh (16:32.11) as the Spartans took third with 110 points behind Kenston (36) and Mentor (57).

On the girls side, Howland’s Megan Hipple led the Tigers to a third-place finish behind Kenston (48) and Shaker Heights (53). Hipple ran 19:22.26.

Her teammates Maria Dellimuti (19:39.41), Molly Yasnowski (19:57.23) and Gabby Reuschling (20:31.69) finished in the top 20.

Boardman took fifth (138), led by Julia Gorby (20:06.55) and Raegan Burkey (20:13.53) finished in 17th and 18th places.

Austintown Fitch’s Kristin Yeager took 21st (20:33.08).

CLIPPER INVITATIONAL: COLUMBIANA — Ursuline’s boys were second at Saturday’s event at the Ward Athletic Complex with 67 points.

Mathews finished ninth (198), while Western Reserve took 11th (248). Akron Springfield was first with 44 points.

Ursuline’s Jarett Gordulic took third (18:20.3), Brady Leugers was ninth (19:11.4) and Nick LaPlante was 11th (19:24.8).

Jackson-Milton’s Cole Graham took sixth (18:50.3), while teammate Anthony Terranova was 10th (19:20.3).

On the girls side, Cardinal Mooney’s Sylvia Tsarnas took fifth at the Clipper Invitational at the Ward Athletic Complex in a time of 22:52.7.

Jackson-Milton’s Katie Campbell was 10th (23:20.2), while Brookfield’s Isabella Foust was 10th.

Mooney placed third (78), while Brookfield was seventh (146).
