ABOUT URSULINE: The Irish were close last week, but a failed two-point conversion in double overtime cost Ursuline against East. The Irish outgained the Golden Bears by 20 in total yardage, but committed two fumbles and had an interception. Davion Jones led Ursuline with 15 carries for 156 yards and two scores.

ABOUT HARDING: In what resembled a throwback Steel Valley Conference game, the Raiders built a 10-0 lead and held the Falcons to a late touchdown. Harding held the dual threat of Fitch’s Nate Leskovac and Devin Sherwood to 85 yards and one TD on 37 carries.

Poland (2-2, 1-0)

at Niles (4-0, 1-0)

WHEN: Friday, 7 p.m.

WHERE: Bo Rein Stadium, Niles

ABOUT POLAND: Joshua Alessi had 16 carries for 116 yards to pace the Bulldogs as Poland rushed for 235 yards on South Range. Poland held the Raiders to 72 yards and one score on 28 carries. South Range’s Isaac Allegretto had 163 passing yards on the Bulldogs.

ABOUT NILES: The Red Dragons are 4-0 for the first time since 2012. Niles opened the season with six straight wins and finished 8-3 in ’12, losing in the first round of the playoffs to Hubbard. Coming off a 34-0 victory, Zach Leonard was 10 of 13 for 127 yards, while Joe Gallo and Brandon Hayes led the rushing attack. But, it was the Red Dragons defense that made Jefferson pay in Week 4 in a shutout. Niles has allowed seven points in the last two games.

Girard (4-0, 1-0)

at South Range (2-2, 0-1)

ABOUT GIRARD: Morgan Clardy had 122 of Girard’s 256 rushing yards, and the Indians, still rolling from last season’s Division IV state finals apperance, won their 12th straight regular season game (their last loss being an Aug. 31, 2018, defeat at Hubbard). Clardy leads the run game with 468 yards, while Andrew DelGarbino is 42-of-66 passing for 607 yards and four TDs.

ABOUT SOUTH RANGE: The Raiders took an early 7-0 lead on Poland, but the Bulldogs scored the next 27 to dominate their Northeast-8 opener. South Range’s Isaac Allegretto had 163 passing yards, but the Raiders were held to less than 100 rushing yards.

Western Reserve (3-1, 1-0)

at McDonald (2-2, 1-0)

WHEN: Friday, 7 p.m.

WHERE: A.A. Burkey Stadium, McDonald

ABOUT WESTERN RESERVE: The Blue Devils offense had 455 yards with Nick Cavoulas having 269 through the air and 130 to Jimmy Mayberry. Western Reserve held Jackson-Milton to 132 yards and Blue Jays leading rusher Sean Lengyel to 16 carries for 58 yards.

ABOUT MCDONALD: These Blue Devils rebounded from an 0-2 start to win their last two, including dominating crosstown rival Mineral Ridge. Dominic Schadl led the offense with 21 carries for 187 yards and all four Blue Devil TDs vs. the Rams.

Struthers (2-2, 0-1)

at Lakeview (1-3, 0-1)

ABOUT STRUTHERS: The Wildcats couldn’t hold back Hubbard late in the fourth quarter as Eagles’ quarterback Cam Resetar had an 11-yard TD run with 1:17 left. Adrian Brown had 14 carries for 76 yards and a touchdown with 7:09 remaining to give the Wildcats a short-lived one-point lead.

ABOUT LAKEVIEW: The Bulldogs gave undefeated Girard all it wanted as Lakeview trailed 28-22 after three quarters. The Indians held off an upstart Bulldogs team in this Northeast-8 opener. QB Stephen Pavlansky was 12-of-28 for 207 yards and three TDs to Gavin Mauger, who had five receptions for 125 yards. However, Girard had 256 yards rushing against Lakeview.

Cardinal Mooney (2-2)

at Boardman (1-3)

WHEN: Friday, 7 p.m.

WHERE: Spartans Stadium, Boardman

LAST MEETING: 2018, Boardman won, 8-6

ABOUT CARDINAL MOONEY: The Cardinals have been defeated by Akron Hoban and Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary by a combined 91-7 over the last two weeks.

ABOUT BOARDMAN: The Spartans have won two of the last three contests against Cardinal Mooney. Boardman was limted to 191 yards against Howland in its second straight loss.

ABOUT FITCH: The Falcons dual-quarterback threat of Devin Sherwood and Nate Leskovac dominated again as the Fitch duo combined for nearly 300 yards and five touchdowns in a Week 3 win over GlenOak.

ABOUT HARDING: The Raiders were dominated against one of the state’s best teams. They took an early 7-0 lead after the Tigers botched a punt return, but Harding gave up more than 400 total yards, while not eclipsing the 100-yard mark in either passing or rushing.

ABOUT HOWLAND: Garrett Deemer’s 9-yard touchdown run with 10 seconds remaining lifted the Tigers past Poland for the first game on Howland’s new turf field.

ABOUT BOARDMAN: The Spartans struggled against former Federal League foe Massillon Jackson, trailing 28-0 midway through the second quarter. Boardman’s defense surrendered more than 450 yards of total offense to the Polar Bears. The Spartans mustered 69 yards rushing and 88 passing.

Campbell (2-1, 0-0)

at LaBrae (1-2, 0-0)

ABOUT CAMPBELL: Christian Stores was 11-of-15 for 177 yards and two TDs as the Red Devils crushed East Palestine. They may be looking for some revenge after last year’s 73-0 shellacking.

ABOUT LaBRAE: The Vikings finally got things going in 2019 with the offensive punch they had through 10 games in 2018. Devin Carter had 19 carries for 249 yards and two scores to account for a bulk of the team’s 375 rushing yards. The Vikings’ defense forced two fumbles and two interceptions.

Hubbard (2-1, 0-0)

at Struthers (2-1, 0-0)

ABOUT HUBBARD: Jermia Harris and TC Caffey each had more than 70 yards rushing and two combined touchdowns as the Eagles blanked Shaw.

ABOUT STRUTHERS: Adrian Brown had 14 carries for 221 yards and three touchdowns to account for most of the Wildcats’ 358 team rushing yards. The Struthers defense held the West Branch rushing game to 18 yards on 34 carries.

ABOUT BROOKFIELD: Tyler Briggs had 12 carries for 72 yards and three touchdowns, but the big bulk of the Warriors offense came from quarterback Haden Gibson going 17-of-21 passing for 237 yards and three scores.

ABOUT POLAND: The Bulldogs blew a 10-0 first-half lead and were nipped by Howland — losing two straight since beating Marlington in their opener.
