July is a great time of the year if you're a short track racing fan.
Things start off this weekend at Sharon Speedway as the World of Outlaws traveling series for the "Battle at the Border," during which there will be $12,000 and $20,000 to win on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
Some of the greatest Late Model drivers in the country, along with local and regional stars, will invade the red clay oval. UMP Mods will be on both shows. Gates open at 4 p.m., and racing will be at 7:30 p.m.
Tony Stewart's playground, Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, also has four nights of high-level sprint car racing. Wednesday marks the beginning of the Double Down Duels High Limit Racing; the twin 25-lap main events will pay $12,000 to win. Results will help determine Thursday's $100,000-to-win Jokers Jackpot. The race will be broadcast on Fox Sports 1 at 7 p.m., showing C and B mains and the 40-lap A main.
On Friday, the World of Outlaws sprint cars take over Eldora. The night before the Kings Royal, $25,000 goes to the winner. Saturday night is the Kings Royal. The crown jewel event final pays $200,000 to the winner, with at least $6,000 to start the event.
On Tuesday, July 21, Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, Pa., just south of Butler, will host the High Limit sprint car series for the Don Martin Silver Cup. The winner will receive $25,000. Lernerville has long been called the "Action Track" because the 4/10-mile dirt oval provides plenty of action.
If you prefer asphalt racing, Lake Erie Speedway near North East, Pa., is having a great show this Saturday. The ISMA Super Modifieds, the fastest short track cars on the planet, will be there, along with Race of Champions Sportsman Modifieds. The American All-Star Dirt Race of Champions Crate Late Models will also take to the asphalt. This is a never-before-done racing event and will be a great show. Racing starts at 7 p.m.
There you have it: Short track, grassroots racing just gets bigger and better.
