Three local softball teams get top seeds in upcoming playoffs

Austintown Fitch, Mathews and Champion all earned No. 1 seeds in their respective regions as the softball tournament brackets were announced.
Austintown Fitch will host Munroe Falls on May 19 for a district semifinal.
Warren G. Harding is the lone Division II program. The Raiders, the 22nd seed, will travel to Broadview Heights for a district semifinal on May 20.
In Division III, Boardman, the No. 2 seed, will host Kent Roosevelt on May 15, Canfield will host East as the three seed and Howland will host Wooster.
A couple teams will go on the road for sectional finals that same day. Chaney will travel to Parma to face Padua Franciscan on May 15. Ursuline will travel to Madison.
In Division IV, Lakeview received a first-round bye and will face Laurel or Crestwood in the district semifinals on May 20. Staying in the Northeast 1 bracket, Hubbard will host Marlington in the sectional final on May 15.
In Northeast 2, Salem will host Oberlin Firelands in sectional final on May 15, Struthers will travel to Jefferson that day for a sectional final in Northeast 3, West Branch will host Trinity at that time in the same round for Northeast 4 and Niles will travel to Akron Coventry as well in Northeast 5.
Sliding down to Division V, South Range got the sixth seed and will host Orrville in a sectional final on May 14. In the Northeast 3 bracket, Champion received a first-round bye and will face the May 14 winner between Liberty and Cardinal Mooney in Liberty. Poland also got a bye and will see either Pymatuning Valley or Garrettsville Garfield, who play May 14 in Andover.
In the Northeast 4 pairings, LaBrae will have the sectional finals off as the Vikings await the winner of Girard and Chippewa, who will play May 14 in Girard. Columbiana will get the Beachwood-Massillon Tuslaw winner on May 19 after taking the first round off.
In Division VI, Northeast 1, Newton Falls will make the drive to face Middlefield Cardinal for a sectional final on May 14. And that day, Crestview will host Smithville and Mineral Ridge will host Grand Valley.
Springfield is a part of the Northeast 2 playoffs, and the Tigers will host Waynedale on May 14. As for Northeast 3 that day, East Palestine will host Lake Center Chrisitan in a battle between the 20th and 21st seeds, and McDonald will be the home team against Kirtland.
In Northeast 4, Campbell will host a familiar foe as Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference foe Waterloo comes to town. Waterloo took both meetings against the Red Devils this season.
Division VII will feature the most local-local matchups on May 14.
In Northeast 1, Mathews will host Wellsville in a sectional final. Heartland Christian will host Windham, Brookfield will make the drive down to Lisbon and Bristol will host Badger in a meeting between the fifth and sixth seeds.
Northeast 2 will have the lone sectional semifinal for an area school. Western Reserve, the 21st seed, will host 22nd seed Lordstown on May 12. The winner will travel to North Jackson to face Jackson-Milton, the third seed, on May 14.
In the sectional finals, Warren JFK will travel to face St. John, Lowellville will host Kidron Central Christian and Chalker will invite Leetonia to town.
Finally, in Northeast 3, second-seeded Maplewood will be the home squad against St. Thomas Aquinas on May 14, and Sebring will play host to Bloomfield on May 13.
