BASEBALL

Columbiana 11, United 6 — A six-run fifth inning springboarded the Clippers to the win over the Golden Eagles. A host of Columbiana pitchers toed the rubber, but Roush picked up the win in five innings, striking out four, walking three and scattering seven hits. At the plate for the Clippers, Young doubled, singled and drove in two runs while Roush helped his cause with three singles and RBIs. For United, Schonauer was given the loss in 4 1/3 innings, striking out six, walking eight and allowing six hits. At the dish for United, Schonauer doubled and drove in two runs while Taylor and Jackson both singled twice.

Maplewood 11, Western Reserve 10 — In the high scoring affair, the Rockets edged out the Blue Devils. Leading the way on the bump and picking up the win was Sexton, throwing two innings in which he struck out four and allowed a free pass. At the plate, Clover tallied three hits while Logan and Sexton each lent two. Gerchak was given the loss, striking out four and walking three in 2 2/3 innings. Offensively in the loss, Stacy tallied two hits and Dotson drove in three runs.

Mathews 12, Lordstown 2 (5 inn.) — The Mustangs opened the game with five, three and four runs in the first three innings, respectively, en route to the thrashing of the Red Devils. At the dish for Mathews, Petak and Pegg both had three singles while Nyako doubled and had three singles, Brown singled twice and Mrofchak lent a double. Kester picked up the win, fanning 10 and walking two. Volpini was given the loss, walking three and striking out three.

Poland 5, West Branch 4 — Heading into the final half inning down 4-0, the Bulldogs walked off the Warriors with a five-run last inning. Leading the way at the plate in the come-from-behind win was Tukalo with a double, single and three RBIs while McKenzie doubled. McKenzie also picked up the win in relief, throwing the final two frames while striking out one, walking two and allowing one hit. In the loss, Mulinix singled twice and drove in two runs and Perry singled twice. Fotheringham was given the loss in relief, walking one.

South Range 5, Lakeview 1 — The Raiders jumped ahead early with three runs in the first inning and kept that momentum to topple the Bulldogs. On the bump for South Range, Tranovich picked up the win in six innings, striking out 11, walking three and allowing three hits. Offensively for the Raiders, Hiscox tripled and singled twice while Brian doubled. Shaker was given the loss for Lakeview in four innings, striking out four while allowing eight hits and a pair of walks.

Mineral Ridge 4, McDonald 0 — The Rams did all their scoring in the fourth inning and kept the lead for the remaining frames to topple the Blue Devils. Leading the way for Mineral Ridge was Balestrino with a pair of hits while Sandy drove in two runs. Xavier Klamer tossed a one-hitter in seven innings, striking out and walking seven. McDonald statistics were not submitted.

Garfield 10, Liberty 0 (6 inn.) — The G-Men dominated at the plate while the pitching staff kept the Leopards to three hits to earn the win. On the bump, Bogucki shut down the Liberty offense, striking out five, walking none and allowing three hits to earn the win. At the dish, Neikirk and Cunningham each drove in two runs, Bogucki and Warnick each doubled and singled and Hill tripled and singled.

Canfield 4, Fitch 3 — The Cardinals plated three runs in the opening frame but the Falcons wouldn’t be denied, scoring three in the top of the fifth but surrendered the lead with a run in the next half inning, leading to the Canfield win. At the plate for Canfield, Weiblind doubled, singled and drove in three runs, Groner doubled and Mancini tripled. Gabriel picked up the win in six innings, striking out two, walking three and allowing five hits. For Fitch, Loomis singled twice. Petridis was given the loss, allowing five hits, five walks and striking out two in 5 1/3 innings.

Jackson-Milton 5, Springfield 4 — The Blue Jays found themselves in a hole but bounced back to edge out the Tigers. Leading the comeback win was Henry and Ruby with a pair of singles each, Scott doubled and singled, Malutek doubled, singled and drove in two runs while Croyle and Krol each lent doubles. Croyle earned the complete-game win, striking out five, walking three and scattering seven hits. In the loss, Catlos doubled and singled, Fusco singled twice and drove in two runs and Ensley singled twice. Novak was given the loss in six innings, striking out four, walking two and allowing 11 hits.

Champion 1, Southeast 0 — It was a pitcher’s duel that went the way of the Golden Flashes as Howell helped keep the Pirates off the scoreboard. The fireballer tossed a complete game, striking out two while walking one and scattering four hits. At the plate for Champion, Morris doubled. For Southeast, Sharish was given the loss, tallying 14 strikeouts, walking one and allowing four hits. At the plate, Sharish helped his cause with a double and a single.

Warren JFK 9, Rootstown 4 — The Eagles started the game hot with six runs in the opening frame and cruised to the win over Rovers. Bolchalk struck out nine en route to the win for Kennedy while walking none and allowing seven hits. For the Eagles offense, Ryan doubled, singled and drove in three runs, Bolchalk helped his cause with a pair of RBIs and Morrison lent a pair of singles and RBIs. In the loss, Hayn singled twice while Ely and Soika both doubled. Harless was given the loss in three innings, striking out three, walking four and allowing six hits.

Newton Falls 11, Crestview 1 — The Tigers claimed the contest thanks in part to their potent offense while the pitching staff kept the Rebels to five hits and one run. The 12-hit Newton Falls offense was led by Powell with a home run, a single and four RBIs, Vargo singled three times, Persin had a pair of hits and RBIs, Wheeler doubled twice and drove in two and Phillips doubled. Huff went the distance and picked up the win, striking out six, walking one and allowing five hits. In the loss, Unkefer singled twice. Devine was given the loss after three innings, striking out one, walking two and surrendering seven hits.

LaBrae 12, Brookfield 2 (5 inn.) — The Vikings plated eight runs in the first two innings to take a commanding lead over the Warriors and never looked back. On the bump, Brunstetter picked up the win for LaBrae, tossing three innings while striking out five, walking three and allowing a hit. Offensively, Brunstetter helped his cause with a double and a pair of RBIs, Rowe singled twice, Armstrong had a pair of hits and drove in five runs while Smallsreed and Boone both doubled. Coleman was given the loss for Brookfield in two innings, striking out none, walking two and allowing four hits.

Bristol 15, Chalker 0 (5 inn.) — The Panthers jumped ahead early while the pitching staff dominated to blank the Wildcats. Williams picked up the win, tossing 1 2/3 innings, fanning four, walking none and allowing a hit. At the plate, Bristol tallied 14 hits and was charged by Thorp with three singles, Williams helped his cause with two singles, Kohler had four singles and two RBis, Pierce drove in two runs and Clisby lent a double. For Chalker, Pack was given the loss after throwing an inning in which he struck out one, walked two and allowed four hits. Offensively, Pack doubled.

Canfield 7, Perry 1 — On senior night, the Cardinals toppled the Pirates thanks to a strong offensive outing. The spark was led by Sydney Lutz with three doubles, Marina Koenig doubled twice, Leah Figueroa belted a two-run home run and singled while Alexis Johnson and Ava Milligan each doubled. Cam Hrina picked up the win in four innings.

South Range 17, Ursuline 0 (5 inn.) — The Raiders exploded for 14 runs in the second inning and the route was on in the win over the Irish. The dominant offense was led by DeJesus with a pair of RBIs, Brogan belted a home run, doubled, singled twice and drove in four runs, Angus doubled, singled and drove in two runs, Pauline lent a pair of RBIs while Bartels legged out a triple. Rupert was credited with the two-hit win, striking out eight while walking one in five innings. Davies was given the Ursuline loss, throwing two innings in which she struck out six, walked two and allowed nine hits.

Hubbard 14, Struthers 1 (5 inn.) — The Eagles jumped ahead early and never looked back to pummel the wildcats. The high-scoring offense was led by Komorek with a home run, double, two singles and four RBIs, Songer doubled and singled twice, H. Taylor lent three doubles and drove in four runs, Schultz doubled and singled and Green lent a pair of singles. Taylor also tossed a complete-game one hitter, striking out five while walking none. For Struthers, Davis was given the loss, striking out one, walking three and surrendering 18 hits in five innings.

Hubbard 18, Struthers 0 (5 inn.) — In game two of a doubleheader, the Eagles plated eight runs in the opening frame and it was smooth sailing to the win over the Wildcats. Leading the 16-hit offense was Songer with a pair of singles and five RBIs, Schultz doubled and drove in three, Warren doubled and singled, Green doubled, singled twice and drove in three runs, Gregory tallied three singles and drove in two runs while Johnson doubled and singled. Schultz shut down the Struthers offense to pick up the two-hit complete game win, striking out 13 while walking one. In the loss, Smiley picked up two singles. Morris was given the loss in two innings, allowing 13 hits, six walks and striking out one.

Fitch 14, Aurora 3 — The Falcons snapped the Aurora 19-game win streak in dominant fashion Monday night. The 16-hit Fitch offense was paced by Ray with four singles, Rodgers with a triple, double, single and three RBIs, Toth blasted a home run, doubled, singled and drove in five runs, Roby singled twice, Folkwein smacked two home runs and drove in four while Coates singled twice. Fedorek was credited with the win in the circle. For the Greenmen, Unverferth homered and singled, Patrash doubled twice, Bohanan singled twice, Qualters homered and Retton doubled. Retton was also tagged with the loss.

Columbiana 15, Cardinal Mooney 0 (5 inn.) — The Clippers’ offense exploded and the pitching staff kept the Cardinals at bay. The potent Columbiana offense was led by Hepler with a double and three singles, Dota had three singles, Pleske belted a pair of home runs and drove in five runs, Perkins left the yard and drove in two runs, Bell singled twice, Brode doubled and Smith blasted a home run and drove in three runs. Pleska picked up the win in the circle, striking out five, walking none and allowing four hits. In the loss, Rinaldi doubled. Ramos was given the loss in four innings, striking out four, walking two and scattering 17 hits.

Maplewood 3, Chalker 2 — The Wildcats scored early with two runs in the opening frame, but the Rockets answered back by knotting the game in the top of the third and took the lead an inning later. Marker was credited with the complete-game win, striking out 10, walking two and allowing six hits. Offensively, Urchek doubled for Maplewood. Hudak was given the loss in seven innings, striking out and walking seven while scattering four hits. Hudak helped her cause with a double, single and two RBIs while Grimm lent a double.

Brookfield 12, Campbell 9 — The slugfest went the way of the Warriors as Brookfield toppled the Red Devils. Both teams combined for 22 hits. Brookfield’s offense was charged by Boyce with a pair of singles, Obermiyer had a pair of singles and RBIs, Teal and Penwell each doubled and singled while Jumper lent a double. Obermiyer went the distance and picked up the win, striking out five, walking one and allowing 10 hits. For Campbell, Cleland doubled, singled and drove in three, Broz and Williams both doubled, Smallwood lent a pair of singles and Adams legged out a triple. Adams was given the complete-game loss, allowing 12 hits while striking out one and allowing one free pass.

Mineral Ridge 10, Jackson-Milton 8 — The Rams claimed their first MVAC title in 21 years thanks to the win over the Blue Jays. The Mineral Ridge conference championship offense was charged by Sandy and Haynie with a pair of hits while nearly all Rams collected a hit while Gerberry drove in two runs. Merolillo picked up the win in 4 2/3 innings in which she allowed seven hits. Jackson-Milton statistics were not submitted.

Grand Valley 10, Badger 5 — Despite being down two, the Mustangs exploded for five runs in the top of the fifth to claim the come-from-behind win over the Braves. Charging the comeback at the plate was Baumann with a pair of singles, Rowland tripled and had three singles, Kovacic doubled and singled and Poyer doubled. Hostetler threw a complete-game in which she struck out three, walked four and allowed nine hits to earn the win. For Badger offensively, Bradbury singled twice, Thomas doubled and drove in two runs and Hall doubled. Bradbury was given the loss in seven innings, striking out seven, walking five and scattering 12 hits.

LaBrae 11, Poland 4 — The Vikings set the tone early with two runs to open the contest and four more an inning later to get out to a commanding lead over the Bulldogs. Charging the offense in the win was Rowe with a pair of doubles, Bragg added a triple, two singles and a pair of RBIs, DeArmitt doubled twice, singled and drove in two runs, Thompson doubled, singled and had three RBIs, Allen lent three singles and two RBIs and Lichty belted a solo home run. Rowe picked up the complete-game win, striking out four, walking three and scattering eight hits. In the loss, Jakubovic had a trio of singles and Hudran doubled, singled twice and drove in two runs. Medvec was given the loss in two innings, striking out two, walking two and allowing seven hits.

Lakeview 5, Girard 2 — Four Lakeview runs in the bottom of the fourth paved the way for the Bulldogs in the win over the Indians. Bacon tossed a complete-game, striking out three, walking three and allowing four hits. At the dish in the win, Isenberg, Collins and Barnot each singled twice while Kovac doubled. Broll was given the loss in six innings, allowing nine hits, walking none and striking out two. Offensively for Girard, Wilkes doubled.

Champion 12, LaBrae 2 (4 inn.) — In game one of a doubleheader, the Golden Flashes claimed the MVAC Grey championship with the trashing of the Vikings. Gabby Gradishar tossed a gem, striking out five, walking two while surrendering one hit. At the plate, Jonna Strock and Maddie Sylvester each doubled, singled and drove in two runs, Sam Strock singled twice and drove in two, Taylor Rouan doubled and drove in two runs while Gradishar helped her cause with a solo home run. Leah DeArmitt was given the loss, striking out five and walking two.

Champion 9, Canfield 2 — The Golden Flashes toppled the Cardinals thanks to 12 hits at the plate and a solid outing in the circle. Gabby Gradishar claimed the win, striking out seven while walking two and allowing five hits. At the plate, Gradishar helped her cause with a home run, double and three RBIs, Adalyn McIntosh singled twice and drove in two runs, Jonna Strock and Ava Sylvester each doubled and singled while Taylor Rouan doubled and Sam Strock belted a solo home run. For Canfield offensively, Koenig had three singles.
